From the President

Mr David Mazengarb

Dear Old Virgilians

Annual General Meeting of OVA

The 2025 AGM will be held at The Tasmanian Hockey Centre – the Function Centre at 7.30 pm on Thursday 27 March 2025.

It is imperative that as many members as possible attend and express their commitment to support the continuation of OVA. Without member support, there is no future for the OVA.

If you are unable to attend but support the continuation of OVA, please register an apology with the secretary and note your ongoing support (see contact details below).

The venue has been selected to enable as many Old Virgilians to attend as possible. The event is being catered with complimentary hot and cold food platters and liquid refreshments.

For catering reasons, it would be appreciated if those attending could indicate by email to the Secretary – graeme.rainbow@bigpond.com.

If you are not currently a member or may wish to become a member, I would like to extend an invitation to attend this function. (Only members will be entitled to vote on resolutions at the AGM)

This is a fantastic opportunity to be informed of the work of your committee, ask questions of interest and contribute to the future directions of OVA.

The future of OVA

With little or no interest in the Old Virgilians, the OVA will not be able to continue. The action plans for rejuvenation growth will be outlined at the AGM. This is what your committee has been working on over the last 12 months.

Your Committee’s view is that there is an opportunity for OVA to strengthen its position in the school community and are proposing to establish a greater level of autonomy in managing the affairs of the association rather than rely on the College resources to support OVA. This must come with members' support.

Member support will be evidenced by members attending member meetings, continuing with their membership commitments and where possible contributing time by serving on the Committee.

I firmly believe that Old Virgilians must continue to support OVA and enable it to contribute to the School community particularly as the College now returns to Year 12 and with this comes a new number of Old Virgilian members. I look forward to the full support of our members.
