Welcome to 2026

Hello there, and welcome to the 2026 school year. We are delighted to be back!

Our Scoresby Superstars have really settled in well and are getting to know their new teachers and classroom expectations. We always spend the beginning of the year Setting up for Success; building relationships and making sure everyone feels safe and supported. These are the ideal conditions for learning, and that is always our aim at the beginning of the year.

We have welcomed our newest Foundation students, and they have had their first full days at school this week. They are learning the routines of school life, making new friends, and finding their way around their new environment. It’s always so lovely to watch our youngest students learn and develop in their first year of school. It’s an exciting journey.

RESPECT

Respect is one of our HEART values and this year we are focussing on, and turning up the volume on, this very important value. Our Term 1 Wellbeing lessons will be based on RESPECT, and we are running a whole school campaign on being RESPECTFUL. We have purchased yellow RESPECT wristbands that will be launched later in the term and which will be a visible reminder to everyone about this important value of focus this year.

The purpose of the RESPECT campaign is to help our students understand what respect is and how to show it.

There are 3 main elements to showing respect: respect for self, respect for others and respect for property. The Term 1 Wellbeing lessons will be based around:

Building respectful relationships with peers and adults
understanding emotions
resolving conflicts positively
celebrating diversity
contributing to safe and inclusive communities

School Hats and Uniform

Just a reminder, as outlined in our Sunsmart policy, students are required to wear a school hat in Terms 1 and 4. Please ensure your child has a school hat to wear while playing outside. If your child does not have a hat, they will be directed to play under the covered area.

Reminders about our Uniform Policy

All students at Scoresby Primary School are to wear appropriate school uniform at all times. The wearing of school uniform enhances the school identity and increases the child’s safety within and outside the school environment.

A school uniform dress code reinforces in students a pride in their own appearance, instils recognition of themselves as an integral part of the school community, and assists in developing pride in representing their school.

Students will present in a neat and tidy fashion
Sensible footwear must be worn at all times
Student hairstyles must be neat, tidy and worn in a manner that is safe for the activities the student is undertaking. Students with hair longer than shoulder length should tie it back with school coloured (green or yellow) hair ties. Any form of coloured hairspray, dyed hair that is not a natural colour, or a mohawk is not permitted.
Make-up, tattoos (permanent or removable transfers), coloured nail polish or body piercings are not permitted.
Small stud earrings worn in the ears and watches are the only permitted jewellery.

School Hours and Supervision

Parents are reminded that staff are not on yard duty prior to 8.45am, therefore there is NO supervision for students at school before this time. Students at school prior to 8.45am must be with a parent or booked into the OSHC program.

School starts at 9.00am. Our students are required in class by 8.55am so they can prepare for their learning and lessons which start promptly at 9.00am.

After school, students must be picked up by 3.45pm or booked into OSHC. If you are going to be late to pick up your child, please inform the office ASAP.

School hours for 2025 are as follows:

8.45 - 8.55am...............Students supervised in the school yard

8.55 - 9.00am...............Music plays, students go to their classrooms

9.00 - 9.50am...............Morning Rigour session (numeracy and spelling skills)

9.50 - 11.30am.............Learning sessions 2 and 3 in classrooms

11.30 - 11.40am..........Lunch eating time in classrooms

11.40am - 12.20pm...Lunch

12.20 - 2.00pm.............Learning sessions 4 and 5 in classrooms

2.00 - 2.40pm..............Recess

2.40 - 3.30pm..............Learning session 6 in classrooms

3.30 - 3.45pm..............Final bell, student pick up, students supervised until 3.45pm

Working With Children Checks (WWCC)

We encourage and value parental and community support at SPS. There are many ways that parents, grandparents and friends can assist at our school. We encourage all parents to obtain a Working With Children Check which will allow you to be very involved in your child’s education. Without one you cannot be a classroom helper or attend an excursion. These checks are free for volunteers. Please ensure you nominate Scoresby Primary School as a place you volunteer. Once you have your WWCC, please come to the office so we can photocopy this and we will add your name to our list of parents who have a current WWCC.

Mobile Phones

All students are required to turn off and hand in mobile phones to the office to prevent usage during school hours. Students are not to use smart watches where the call and messaging function can connect to the student’s phone. Devices need to be handed in to the office at the start of the day and collected at the end of the day.

Children’s University

We are excited to once again be offering the Children’s University program at Scoresby Primary School. Children’s University encourages students to develop a love of learning beyond the classroom by participating in a range of educational experiences, both at school and in the wider community. The program supports curiosity, confidence and lifelong learning habits for students in Years 1–6. Please keep an eye on Compass for further information about launch dates and registration details.

Insurance at School

Private property brought to school by students, visitors or parents is not insured and the Department of Education does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage. This can include mobile phones, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises.

As the Department of Education does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools, and has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property, students, visitors and parents are discouraged from bringing any unnecessary or particularly valuable items to school.

Department insurance policies also do not cover personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students.
