Foundation Unit

Welcome back to Term 2! It was very exciting seeing all the students return and share what they got up to over the school holidays.

Last week students learnt about ANZAC day and made some poppies to remember those who fought in the war. Students placed red and purple poppies in our memorial garden. Red represents the people who served in the war, and purple represents the animals. The Foundation students also learnt about ‘The Last Post’ and were incredibly respectful during our ANZAC day assembly. Well done, preps!

The Foundation students participated in an incursion called ‘Grow your own…’

During this fantastic incursion, the preps listened to a dietician discuss the importance of healthy food groups and how different food groups help us to have energy to learn and play. Munisa and Kristen showed us what different foods can do to our body and showed us how to make a healthy pesto out of fresh basil. The students all got to taste some of this pesto on their pasta and had the choice to add more nutrients, like tomatoes, seeds and corn, to their plate. Most students loved the pesto dish, and everyone gave it a try.

After our lovely meal, the students went outside to learn how to pot their own basil plants. Each student received their own pot and used soil and water to create a bed for some basil seeds. As part of our Inquiry project this term, students will observe and record the changes in their plant over the next few weeks. Hopefully by the end of term, each student will get to take home a plant that they can share with their family.
