What's Happening In Secondary

Vocal Ensemble

Our vocal ensemble has started up strong this year. We've welcomed some new faces and are encouraged to see many of last years members return. These dedicated students practise every Tuesday and Thursday morning before school. We're continuing to perfect our pieces and were privileged to perform Soon and Very Soon in our Easter Service last Thursday. We're in the process of learning Into The Unknown from Frozen 2 and look forward to performing this later in the year. 

Year 8 Science

In Year 8 Science, students have recently embarked on a journey in Chemistry. Students have learned to identify physical changes and chemical changes, looking for indicators like colour changes, light and sound (think fireworks!) and new substances being formed. These indicators have helped us to label changes as physical or chemical. 

A highlight of this unit has been a lesson in the lab in which students conducted a series of short experiments to look for indicators of chemical change. Using safe working procedures, students added magnesium to hydrochloric acid, observed the rusting of iron and mixed copper sulfate with a sodium hydroxide solution.   

If you know a Year 8 student, some questions you could ask them are:

• What is the difference between a physical and chemical change?
• What are the five indicators of a chemical change? Do these guarantee that a chemical change has happened?

Athletics Carnival - Postponed

Unfortunately, due to the predicted weather for tomorrow (April 9th), we have made the decision to postpone our Secondary Athletics Carnival.

Classes will resume as normal on Thursday, and we will work towards securing a new date for the carnival in Term 2.

Year 11 & 12 Pathways at Leighland Christian School

DCS is actively partnering with our colleagues at Leighland Christian School to provide information and experiences that will support our Year 10 students as they consider continuing their education in Years 11 and 12 at Leighland.

Over the course of this year Leighland team members will be visiting DCS to connect with our senior students. And our DCS students will be invited to Leighland activities and events to enhance these connections.

Families exploring Year 11 and 12 options for 2027 are strongly encouraged to book a tour at Leighland Christian School for further information.
