Principal Message 

Sydenham Campus Term 3, August 2026

Despite the very cold and wintry weather, we have had a great start to Term 3, and we are almost at the half way point!

We celebrated a wonderful Term 2 with our end of term campus assembly. We recognised the outstanding academic, sporting and social achievements of Sydenham campus students, and we congratulated the following RRR Award recipients;

We were also very proud to acknowledge Connor Roczniak on his wonderful performance in the World Skills Championships. Connor is a current Year 10 student who has been studying a Certificate in Automotive Studies at the Delahey campus. 

Rehearsals have been underway for our College performance of School of Rock coming up this week. Congratulations to all students who have been working hard to put on a wonderful show. Thank you to Ms Van Orsouw who has led the Performing Arts Team over a lengthy period, including rehearsals during the term 2 break.

Student voice and agency continue to grow at the College and we thank Ms Hatton – Campus Engagement Leader, who has been working with the student leaders on campus to formulate a calendar of events to cater to the needs of the students. Campus Leadership students met to discuss their ideas and proposed events.

Year 8 Snow Day: On Monday July 13th, our Year 8 students attended Lake Mountain Alpine Resort. The students had to arrive to school at 6:00am before heading off to Lake Mountain for the day. Although there was not much snow, our students had lots of fun and were able to make snowmen and use the toboggans down the slope. Overall, the students were able to bond with their peers and make great memories on the day.

Subject Selections 2027

Students have been busy selecting their 2027 academic programs in various forums. Thank you to the Pathways Team for leading and assisting students in conversations about future pathways. As part of this process, a Year 9-10 subject expo was held on both junior campuses, showcasing the wonderful array of subjects on offer at the College. 

Thank you to KLA and Program Leaders for their displays and advice.

A Bell Shakespeare performance of Macbeth for all Year 10 students early this term provided students with a visual presentation to reinforce the work they are completing in English class. Thank you to Ms Jayaram for her leadership and organisation of this incursion.

All Year 7 students visited the Melbourne Museum to view the Rome: Empire, Power, People exhibition. This also reinforced the Year 7 Humanities work being completed in class.

Thank you to the Year 7 LOTE Italian and Humanities staff for suggesting and organising this excellent excursion.

Farewell to Mr Lance Petherick who has moved to Doherty’s Creek P-9. Mr Petherick began at Copperfield on the Sydenham campus as a member of the College leadership team as a Campus Leader and then as a Campus Principal. 

We also say goodbye to Ms Hannah Polonczak. Hannah is an alumnus who has made a significant contribution as a member of the Student Well Being Team. On the Sydenham campus, Hannah has made positive connections with many students and their families and taken a lead in organising the Year 8 and 10 well being days. 

We wish Lance and Hannah every success in their new locations.

We also congratulate Mrs Karen Martin who has been appointed to an acting Campus Principal role on the Kings Park Campus. Karen leaves the Sydenham campus after 25 years where her leadership has been inclusive, firm and fair and she has made many positive relationships with students, families and staff.

Congratulations to Ms Angelic Ferreira who has been appointed to the 9/10 Middle School Leader position and Mr Paul Singh and Mr Rhys Flakemore who will be leading E Team for the remainder of the school year.

We are looking forward to our Student Led Presentations on Wednesday 2/09/26. More details will be communicated as we approach the date.
