Years 11 and 12 Society and Culture students attended an excursion to the State Library of New South Wales last week. Students participated in a research tutorial focused on effectively accessing the Library’s extensive collections, including its online databases and academic resources to support their HSC Personal Interest Projects.
They were given a guided tour of the underground archives, where they viewed primary sources dating back to the 18th century and learned that the vault houses some of the earliest published works of William Shakespeare. Students also had the opportunity to examine award-winning past HSC Society and Culture major works, gaining valuable insight into the standard and creativity expected at the highest level.
The group toured the exhibition gallery before visiting the iconic Mitchell Reading Room; an inspiring space that many students commented looked like something out of a Harry Potter film.
Adding to the excitement of the day, students discovered that celebrities Hailey Bieber, Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi were in the city. Some students were even fortunate enough to see them in person and take photos, which provided a memorable conclusion to an already great day.
