Dear Parents and Friends,

As you know, recent weather has significantly impacted our day-to-day operations. Last week’s forced closure when Charles Creek reached the highest level recorded in our history was an unprecedented event. Thankfully, damage to the College was minimal, with the main electric gate the most significant issue. I am very grateful to the Alice Springs Town Council workers for clearing Ulpaya Road and the footpath so promptly. I know this created traffic challenges, and I sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation.

With further rain forecast, I encourage students to bring raincoats and umbrellas. While our grounds are beautiful, the campus is not designed for sustained heavy downpours.

Love was certainly in the air on Friday 13 February as our Year 12 students delivered flowers, chocolates, messages and even songs across the College. Their morning of kindness and good humour including the hugely popular “Rate My Rizz” pick-up line competition ensured this event brought much joy and laughter to staff and students alike.

Our recent Round Square Assembly was both engaging and informative, highlighting the six IDEALS — Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service — under a creative “Masterpiece” theme. It was a wonderful opportunity for new students and staff to deepen their understanding of the culture that shapes our College through our connection with this international organisation. We look forward to celebrating 30 years of Round Square membership in 2026.

Our new Head of Outdoor Education, Meagan Butler, has now completed information sessions for all Year 7–11 adventure programs. If you have any further questions, please contact Meagan directly. With the recent rain, our waterholes and ranges promise to be particularly spectacular this year.

I also extend sincere thanks to our Medical Centre team for coordinating the Year 9, 11 and 12 immunisations. The planning and care involved in delivering the Meningococcal vaccination program is considerable, and we are grateful for the professionalism shown in protecting the health of our students.

We began this week with a vibrant Lion Dance to celebrate Lunar New Year. The talented performers delighted our community, sharing small plush horses for The Year of the Horse symbolising success, vitality, strength, good fortune, prosperity and opportunity. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to experience and celebrate this rich cultural tradition together.

Finally, our Performing Arts Festival will be held next Friday, with the theme “Famous Painters/Paintings.” This much-loved carnival provides students with opportunities to showcase their talents in singing, dance, drama and instrumental performance, while also recognising the important contributions of those working behind the scenes in prop design, lighting and scriptwriting. It promises to be a wonderful celebration of creativity.

Warm regards,
