Project Compassion Begins Tomorrow – Ash Wednesday
As we begin the sacred season of Lent, Sacred Heart will officially commence our support of Project Compassion, Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten appeal, tomorrow on Ash Wednesday.
Throughout the coming weeks, students will hear inspiring stories of people from around the world who are working hard to overcome challenges such as poverty, inequality and the effects of climate change. Project Compassion reminds us that even small acts of generosity can make a big difference.
Families are warmly invited to support this appeal. Students can:
- Bring along some spare change to place in their class Project Compassion box
- Consider setting aside part of their pocket money during Lent
- Look for simple ways to give up something small and donate the money saved
- Talk as a family about how you can support others during this Lenten season
Each classroom will have a Project Compassion donation box available for students to contribute throughout Lent, with additional donation boxes located at the school office. Families are also welcome to donate online via the QR code provided.
Shrove Tuesday 17/02
The day before Lent begins is known as Shrove Tuesday. Traditionally, it was a day when families used up rich ingredients such as eggs, milk and sugar before the more reflective and simple season of Lent began. Shrove Tuesday reminds us to prepare our hearts for Lent.
Ash Wednesday 18/02
Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent. On this day, Catholics receive ashes on their forehead in the shape of a cross. The ashes are a sign of repentance, reflection and our desire to grow closer to God. Lent is a forty day journey of prayer, fasting and almsgiving as we prepare for Easter.
As a school community, we will mark Ash Wednesday with:
- Years 4–6 students attending Mass at St Mary’s Church at 9:30am (Every welcome)
- Years 1–3 students gathering for a liturgy in the Multi at 10:30am
We look forward to beginning this important season together in prayer and reflection. Thank you for your continued support of Sacred Heart as we nurture faith, compassion and generosity in our students.
