Upcoming Excursions and Incursions

Please ensure you have processed all consents and payments on your Compass portal to guarantee your child's participation in all upcoming incursions and excursions. 

Please also ensure 2026 Permissions and Agreements have been processed to include permission for local excursion, photography permission, and ICT agreements. 

Foundation News

Welcome back to Term 3! We’re already halfway through the year, and there’s so much to celebrate and be proud of. We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed a well-deserved break.

The Foundation students have had a fantastic start to the term with Fire Ed and a visit from four firefighters. It was an engaging introduction to our new Knowledge Building unit, Our Communities.

We explored the many people who help keep our community safe, including police officers, firefighters, lifeguards and other community helpers, and discussed the important roles they play.

During the Fire Ed sessions, students learnt about good fires and bad fires, how to reduce the risk of fire accidents, and what to do if a fire occurs. They practised remembering to “crawl down low and go, go, go!" if there is smoke, and "stop, drop, cover and roll" if their clothing catches fire. A highlight for the students was having the opportunity to use the firefighters' hose and explore inside the fire truck!

To continue this learning at home, students have been asked to discuss and identify a safe family meeting place outside their home (such as the letterbox or a large tree) and locate the smoke alarms in their house.

We’re looking forward to another fantastic term filled with learning, growth and fun!

100 Days of School Celebration – Tomorrow!

Just a reminder that our 100 Days of School celebration is happening tomorrow!

Please make sure your child arrives at school wearing their decorated T-shirt over their school uniform. We can't wait to see all the amazing and creative designs!

Our 100 Days Parade will begin at 9:15 am on the basketball court. Families are warmly invited to attend. Please stand around the outside of the court and be mindful of the speaker setup so everyone can enjoy the celebration.

We’re looking forward to celebrating this special milestone with our Foundation students and families!

Year 5 News

Book Launch

At the start of term 2, year 5 students sat down and wrote amazing stories for a program called Early Harvest. Early Harvest is a program where we have a chance to get our stories published in a real book. Once we completed our books, in late term 2, each class created their own publishing houses and branding. Then we decorated our classrooms to fit our publishing theme. After that we had our book launch. 

During the book launch we got to roam all the classes in year 5 exploring each others stories. Later we called a meeting with the whole cohort and the book launch was finished. In the meeting we talked about who got to the next stage of Early Harvest. 

And we hope as many of them as possible get into the Early Harvest book of 2026.

Year 7 Placements Reminder

All letters for your child's Year 7 2027 Secondary School Placement have been emailed to families via Compass.

Please check your emails, including your junk box.

If you have not received this, please contact Brodie in the front office.

​To accept this Year 7 placement offer, you need to complete Year 7 Placement Acceptance Slip and return to the front office by Tuesday 11th August 2026. - even if you have a confirmed placement at Catholic or Independent placement.

Appeals

If you would like to appeal this decision, you may write to the principal of your preferred secondary school, outlining your reasons for appeal.

A written appeal against a Year 7 non-placement decision need to be lodged with your preferred secondary school by Friday 17th July 2026. Please contact the preferred secondary school if you have missed this deadline.

The secondary school will advise you of the outcome of your appeal, in writing, by Tuesday 4th August 2026.

Library News

Book week parade

Our highly anticipated book week parade will be held once again on Wednesday 26th August. Students are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character or connected to this year's theme of ‘a symphony of stories’ or as something inspired by a published book. Parents/carers are welcome to join us on the oval from 9.10am.

Music News

Tomorrow, Friday 24th July, we are very lucky to host the nationally renowned conductor Hannah Trewartha who will run a full-day workshop with our band students. Hailing from Western Australia, Hannah has conducted clinics and workshops with bands across Australia and we are very excited to learn from her. Students should remember to bring their instrument, music and a pencil, as well as their recess snack and lunch as usual. 

Auslan 

Exciting Auslan Incursion Coming Soon!

We are excited to announce that we are currently organising a special Auslan incursion for our students with David Grant, a Deaf actor, writer and content creator.

David is a passionate advocate for the Deaf community and Australian Sign Language (Auslan). Through his engaging presentations, he shares his lived experiences as a Deaf person while inspiring students to appreciate the richness of Deaf culture, the importance of inclusion, and the value of learning Auslan. His interactive sessions are both educational and entertaining, encouraging students to think about communication in new and meaningful ways.

We are hopeful that David will be visiting NLPS sometime in the coming month, with the exact date to be confirmed. This promises to be a wonderful opportunity for our students to deepen their understanding of Auslan and Deaf culture.

We look forward to sharing more details with families as soon as the date is confirmed.

STEM News

Science Week runs from August 17–21 this year, which is Week 6 of Term 3. The theme is Seeds of Science - Nurturing Knowledge for all. Students will take part in themed Science Week lessons during their regular STEM classes at school.

We’re also offering an optional Science Week Challenge for students to complete at home. Please see the image below for details.

Students may work individually or with siblings/friends. Creations should be brought to school by Wednesday 12th August, so that we can set up a display for classes to visit and enjoy.

We’re looking forward to seeing the creative designs that students come up with!
