Acting Principal Update
The weather has certainly turned at Menzies Creek Primary School, but it hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of our students. It’s been skipping mania across the school as everyone practises for Jump Rope for Heart, with energy and determination on full display. We’ve also seen many of our children making the most of outdoor play, enjoying time in the sandpit and lively games of soccer in the Green Space. Rain, hail or shine, our students are out there making the most of every opportunity to practise and play.
Even with this chilly weather, there is always a way to bring some warmth to Menzies Creek Primary School. Today, our school community came together to enjoy a delicious bowl of hot soup in our Kitchen Garden room. A big thank you to Kate for preparing the soup and making sure our students were warm and cosy, even when the weather outside was not!
Science Week Excursion
As part of our Science Week celebrations, all students will have the opportunity to take part in a special whole school excursion to Lilydale High School on Friday 21st August.
Students will visit Lilydale High School’s Zoology Centre, which is home to the largest collection of animals in a school in Australia. Throughout the day, students will rotate through a range of hands-on activities exploring topics including egg incubation, reptile habitats and animal care. They will also have the exciting opportunity to meet the school’s two crocodiles, Leo and Cleo!
Weather permitting, students will also travel to Lilydale Lake to undertake some fieldwork activities and further explore the natural environment around them.
Further information, including excursion details, will be shared with families via Compass this week. We are looking forward to an exciting day of science, discovery and hands-on learning!
100 Days of School
Our junior students recently celebrated a very special milestone – 100 days of school! It was a joyful day that recognised the learning, growth and friendships that have developed across the year so far.
Throughout the day, students took part in a range of engaging activities, including imaginative writing tasks where they explored what life might look like in 100 years and shared what they would choose if they could have 100 of something. They also enjoyed creative hands-on experiences such as making crowns and decorating fairy bread with 100s and 1000s. Outdoors, students came together in the Green Space for a whole school skipping challenge, working collaboratively to reach 100 skips as part of their Jump Rope for Heart practice.
The day provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved in the first 100 days of learning. We are so proud of our students and the enthusiasm they bring to each day at Menzies Creek Primary School.
Parent Teacher Conferences
We are looking forward to welcoming families into the school for our Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday 6th August. This is a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher and discuss their learning, progress and goals.
First Steps to Prep – Session One
It was wonderful to welcome back our 2027 Prep students and prospective families for the first session of our First Steps to Prep program for Term 3.
Families were introduced to our school routines through a Welcome Circle, an important part of the Berry Street Education Model that supports connection and a positive start to learning. Together, we shared the story Little Cloud by Eric Carle, which inspired students as they created their own cloud artworks in our Visual Arts space. We finished with a Goodbye Circle and a “What Went Well” reflection, helping to build confidence and a sense of community.
There are still places available for our remaining sessions. If you know a family who has a child starting Prep in 2027, we encourage you to share information about our First Steps to Prep program with them. They can book their place by contacting Reception on 9754 3695.

Book Week
We are excited to celebrate Children’s Book Week at Menzies Creek Primary School with our much-loved Book Week Dress Up Day on Thursday 27th August.
This year’s theme, ‘Symphony of Stories’, celebrates the joy, creativity and imagination that comes from sharing stories. The theme has been beautifully brought to life by award-winning author and illustrator Briony Stewart, whose vibrant artwork captures the magic of books and the wonderful worlds they can take us to.
Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character on Thursday 27th August as we celebrate our love of reading together. We will also be inviting our First Steps to Prep participants to join in the fun and be part of our Book Week celebrations.
We can’t wait to see the incredible creativity and imagination on display as our school community comes together to celebrate the stories, characters and books that inspire us all
Hot Chocolate Mondays
We are continuing to offer hot chocolates every Monday at lunchtime in BER. You can order via QKR and funds raised will go towards the school.
2026 School Production
School production rehearsals are in full swing, and we can’t wait for you to see our performance of ‘We Speak for the Trees’. A reminder that our school production will be held at Emerald Secondary College in the EPAC on Thursday 10th September. We will also be holding a rehearsal in the EPAC during the school day on Thursday 10th September. Keep an eye out in our newsletter for ticket information.
