DigiTech News...

This term, it’s the children in Years 3 to 6 turn to have Digitech lessons. The children have formed teams (some have chosen to work individually) and continued to code (using Scratch) to create a video game to enter in the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge.
This year’s game’s theme is THE OCEAN, so the children have developed ocean scenes and ocean-related sprites (characters) to create a simple video game.
Student Reflections...
“I have been learning a lot in Digitech like making video games. The game I’ve made is called Eat the Apple. I haven’t finished it yet but it has a little guy called Bob and a donut drops from the sky and Bob has to try to catch it. If you catch it you get points. I had to code it so that it would work. It took me a few tries to make it perfect. It has been lots of fun and my game has been cool and nice to play.” by Anastasia Cutrone
“ In Digitech I have worked with my friend Fern to code a video game with a theme of underwater. We have called the game Under the Sea. It’s about a clown fish running away from a shark. Fern and I had to code it to make it work. We kind of copied another game’s code to make it easier to do. I enjoyed playing the game once we finished it but it was kind of challenging because the shark was too big. We might have to make the shark smaller. We also asked other friends to play and test it out.” Hana Muyco Khorassani
“I never knew how to code a game but this year in Digitech I have learnt how to. Sophie H told me what the game is about and then I tried to code it using Scratch. The game is not done yet but I’m trying to get it finished as soon as I can. At some point it was really hard to find out how to do things that I had never used before, but I asked others to show me how to do stuff so that next time if I neede to do it again I would know how to do it. My game is called Shark Chase. In in you’re the shark and there are fish floating around and you’re trying to get them. The fish keep appearing until you get ten of them.” Maisie McPhee
