Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,

As we reach the end of week 6, it is hard to believe we are already more than halfway through the final term of 2025! It has been a productive and busy couple of weeks since the last newsletter.

It was so lovely to see so many of you at the College Art and Tech showcase evening on the 6th of November. This event provided a great opportunity to celebrate and showcase the work and talents of so many of our students. It was certainly an evening full of pride for everyone in our community as we enjoyed everything from delicious food produced by the VCE VET Hospitality and Cookery students, a wide variety of performances, media works, fashion textiles masterpieces, works from the Wood and Systems Technology classes and visual art creations from Kindergarten to VCE. If you were not able to attend, please be sure to check out the Celebrations of Learning and Community section of this newsletter to see some of the work that was featured on the night.

Our 2026 VCE Vocational Major students attended a three day camp in Portsea from the 5th to 7th November in preparation for their final two years at school. This was a great time for them to form connections with each other before being introduced to the 2026 program.

Our Year 11 students started their exams on the 7th November and will commence their Year 12 studies next week. This is always such a bittersweet time in secondary schools. We will farewell the class of 2025 at the Graduation Evening on the 19th of November, while the class of 2026 will prepare to commence their final year of schooling during their Early Start program in the same week.

Our Year 10 students enjoyed their picnic day on the 7th of November and started their exams today. Those doing VCE VM have already started the transition for next year and VCE students will start the Early Start program on the 24th of November.

Our Year 9 students have been busy with many aspects of their program, including City Experience visits to the Holocaust Museum and Hoyts and their upcoming English Showcase.

We look forward to seeing you at some of the important events ahead, including;

  • Year 12 Graduation Presentation Evening - 19th November
  • Year 11 and 12, 2026 VCE VM Information Evening - 24th November
  • Year 9 English Showcase - Tuesday 25th November
