Year 12 Building and Construction Class Review: Sabine Year 12

Our Year 12 Building and Construction class has been working hard on the construction of a mezzanine project, and it has quickly become one of the most exciting and engaging experiences of the year. Every lesson gives us the opportunity to develop real industry skills while working together as a team on a large-scale construction project.

So far, we have measured and marked out the mezzanine area before installing the stirrups into the concrete using a hammer drill. We then secured the stirrups in place with dynabolts to ensure the structure was strong and stable. After this, we attached the posts securely to the stirrups and began constructing the framework.

The next stage involved drilling the bearers into place and installing the joists inside the frame. Throughout this process, we have been using a range of professional tools and equipment including nail guns, batten screws, decking screws, and timber screws. This has allowed us to gain valuable hands-on experience that reflects real construction work on-site. Our teacher, Mr McGrath, has also been able to support and guide us throughout the project using his trade background and industry experience, which has helped us better understand real construction practices and expectations.

We are currently working on the decking and framing stages of the mezzanine, and it has been exciting to see the structure continue to come together week by week. The project has created a highly engaging learning environment where students are motivated to come to class each day and contribute to the build. Everyone is actively involved, learning practical skills, improving teamwork, and taking pride in being part of such a rewarding project.

This mezzanine build has been an incredible opportunity for our class to experience the construction industry in a practical and meaningful way, and we are all looking forward to seeing the finished result.

Dreamworld Excursion

Our students had a fantastic time at Dreamworld, enjoying the rides, attractions, and an action-packed day of fun and memories.

Girls 2026 CBSW Wildcard Tournament

The girls are crushed it in the 2026 CBSQ Wildcard Tournament this week winning all of their games and finishing top of the pile. Well done team!
