From The Team

Hello to our wonderful Junior School Families!

What a fantastic fortnight we’ve had in the Junior School! Our walk to Woolworths was a highlight, with lots of fun and valuable learning along the way. It was wonderful to see our students engaging with the world around them and enjoying this special experience together.

Our Foundation students are also counting down the days until their excursion to the Pevan and Sarah concert next Thursday! There was plenty of excitement on Monday when students received a very special letter from Pevan and Sarah themselves.

The students were thrilled and eagerly wrote letters in response, which they’ll take along to the concert to post in the special P&S Post Box. We can’t wait to see their excitement as they enjoy this memorable experience!

With the upcoming long weekend and public holiday, we hope all our families enjoy a well-deserved break and some extra time to relax, recharge and spend time together. We look forward to another wonderful fortnight when everyone returns!

Reminders

  • Nightly Reading and Word Practice: Please read with your child each night and record it in their yellow reading log. Foundation students should practise letters and words in their My Wonderful Words book, and Year 1/2 students should practise their high-frequency words.

  • Mini Market donations: We are getting ready for our school's upcoming Mini Market, which will be held later this term! Over the next few weeks, we would greatly appreciate donations of the following items from each grade to help make our market a success:
    • Foundation: Bags of lollies, Lucky Dip donations of unwanted items from home that are still in good, clean condition. Suitable donations might include:books and comics, toys, figurines and soft toys, board games, card games and puzzles, unused stationery and craft supplies, small sports equipment and outdoor toys, stickers, novelty items and other small treasures that children would love to receive!
    • 1/2P: Bags of individually wrapped lollies, such as lollipops or individually wrapped Mentos
    • 1/2F: Blocks of chocolate

Donations can be sent along to school with your child over the next few weeks. Thank you so much to those who have already passed along some goodies!

Puppet Show Production:

Craft puppets from old socks or paper bags and put on a show to practice storytelling and language skills.

Junior School Activities

Foundation Persuasive Writing

The Foundation students have been exploring ‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!’ and developing their persuasive writing skills. They wrote letters to the Pigeon explaining why he should not drive the bus, including an opening, their opinion and three supporting reasons. Students also practised publishing their work by incorporating feedback from Miss Whittington into their final copies.

So proud of their writing, students shared it with Mrs Rheumer and Tina and were delighted to receive a special Principal’s sticker! Come and see their writing on display in the corridor!

1/2's Treasured objects

The Year 1/2s have loved sharing special items with their classmates! We have been exploring how treasured objects can remind us of special people, places and memories, just like in our text ‘Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge’.

Walk to Woolies

After completing our unit on money, the Junior School students put their learning into practice with a walk to our local Woolworths! We explored the prices of different fruits and vegetables, compared items sold individually and per kilogram, and had a go at using the scales to weigh our produce.

We also practised using money at the checkout while developing our manners, communication and social skills. To top off our adventure, we enjoyed a lovely walk back to school, stopping at the playground to enjoy our fresh fruit together. What a wonderful way to bring our maths learning to life!
