What's Happening Week 10
Last Day of Term 1 on Thursday, 3.20 pm finish
This is our last newsletter for Term 1. Please take the time to read our page. There is a lot of great information on here, and information from the students in our school.
On Friday, the 20th of March, we celebrated Catholic Education Week at St. Patrick's Cathedral with many other Primary and Secondary Schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Archbishop Peter Comensoli celebrated the Mass, and one of the best parts of the Mass was the singing by the choir from Avila College.
We then moved from the Cathedral to the Treasury Gardens, where we had bands from secondary schools like Penola College play different songs that we got to dance to. There were also games in the park organised by other secondary schools, such as Parade College. One of the best things about going to Treasury Gardens was the music at the concert and the mini soccer games.
One of the best parts of being a Catholic School is knowing that not only do we belong to a School Community that has the same values and language in looking after one another, but our school also belongs to a larger community that teaches the same values, beliefs and traditions.

Recently, some of our students had the choice to participate in a Times Tables Rock Stars Competition. Over three days, students earned 1 point for each correct answer, with up to 1 hour of play each day to accumulate their scores.
We would like to congratulate all participants for their fantastic effort and enthusiasm. As a school, we achieved an impressive 31st place out of 188 schools across Australia, a wonderful result!
A special congratulations to our top scorers:
Out of 18, 331 students in Australia, John placed 19th and Yashika 49th! When John and Yashika were asked how they felt about their results and what advice they would give others, they shared the following:
John: "I am proud of myself. To learn your timestables, keep practising, don't stop, and you can get better.''
Yashika: "I feel awesome. If you keep practising, you will get better and might win someday."
This was a phenomenal effort by all involved, well done!
My name is Jacob. This year was my first time doing NAPLAN. I felt very nervous because it was the first ever test that we did on our Chromebooks. Some questions were hard, and some were easy. I tried my best on the difficult questions. My favourite part was the reading because I found it very easy.
Doing NAPLAN for the first time made me feel proud of everything that I have learnt.

The Drawing Competition is back, and we are excited to invite all students to take part! Entries will be due in Term 2, Week 2, and the competition is open to everyone who would like to showcase their creativity.
Students will have the opportunity to work on their artwork over the school holidays, giving them plenty of time to get inspired, experiment with ideas, and produce their best work. We encourage all participants to use this time to be imaginative and creative.
There will be prizes awarded for both Junior and Senior winners, so all age groups have a chance to shine.
