It’s been a wonderful start in the Visual Arts room! Students across the school have been enthusiastically exploring a range of creative experiences, developing their skills, confidence, and imagination through drawing, mosaics, textiles, fashion design, sculpture, and much more. It has been fantastic to see students expressing their unique ideas while learning new techniques and working collaboratively on exciting projects. The school is always open to exploring the art on display.

Recently, students have also been working hard on their entries for the Penola Catholic College “My Special Place in Nature” Competition. They have created thoughtful and imaginative artworks inspired by places in nature that are meaningful to them. We are incredibly proud of the creativity, effort, and artistic talent they have demonstrated, and we wish all participating students the very best in the competition.

As we continue creating throughout the year, we would greatly appreciate donations of clean, reusable art materials that can be transformed into amazing works of art. Items we are always grateful to receive include:

  • Fabric scraps, felt, wool, ribbon, buttons and lace

  • Cardboard tubes and small boxes, old canvases or photo frames.

  • Newspapers and magazines

  • Craft supplies such as pom-poms, sequins, and paddle pop sticks

If you have any of these items at home that you no longer need, we would love to give them a second life in our art room. Please ensure all donations are clean and safe for classroom use.

This term, students will continue exploring Fashion and Design in Visual Arts. They will apply the design skills and techniques they have developed to create a unique item. Each year level will have the opportunity to design a different project, such as a hat, bag, teddy bear, model, pencil case, or T-shirt, using their creativity and imagination to bring their ideas to life.

Our Grade 6 students will also be completing their Artist Project, showcasing the skills, techniques, and creativity they have developed throughout their primary school years. These artworks will be on display soon, and we look forward to sharing their outstanding work with our school community.

Congratulations to our Year Prep students on celebrating 100 days of school. Each child has completed a self-portrait in art. I’m so proud of the learning they have achieved so far this year.

Lastly, if you know of any local artists who may be interested in working with our school on a collaborative art project, please get in touch. I would love the opportunity to work alongside students and an artist to create something special that can be enjoyed by our whole school community.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our Visual Arts program. Your generosity helps provide students with rich, creative learning opportunities and encourages sustainable art practices through reusing and repurposing everyday materials.
