Press Gang Day – Media Literacy in Action

4 of our Press Gang reporters recently took part in a special Press Gang Day at WSU, joining forces with student journalists from other schools. Together, they brainstormed and developed thoughtful questions before stepping into the spotlight to interview an expert panel of media professionals.

The focus of the day was media literacy and fighting misinformation—a vital skill in today’s world. Students explored how to spot reliable sources, challenge false information, and understand the power of the media in shaping opinions.

It was a fantastic opportunity to network with fellow reporters, experience the buzz of a real studio, and even get behind the camera. The highlight was recording a resource on media literacy that will be shared with schools across Australia, ensuring that student voices contribute to the national conversation on truth and trust in the media.

A great day out, full of learning, collaboration, and inspiration for our budding journalists!
