Child Safe Code of Conduct

Child Safe Code of Conduct – Simplified Overview
At Plenty Valley Christian College, we have several Codes of Conduct to guide how we behave as a community. These apply to students, parents, and staff. While they may feel like rules, they’re really about helping us create a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
If someone consistently struggles to meet these expectations, we may need to talk about whether Plenty Valley is the right place for them.
Who the Child Safe Code of Conduct Applies To
- Staff
- Contractors
- Volunteers
It focuses on keeping children safe and is available on SEQTA (search under “Documents”).
What We Expect
Everyone covered by this code must:
- Follow the Child Safe Standards (we’ll explain these more another time)
- Treat others with respect
- Avoid any behaviour that could be seen as bullying, hate speech, or threatening
- Pay close attention to children who may struggle to express fear or concerns
- Support both physical and emotional safety
- Respond appropriately to any allegation of child abuse
What’s Not Allowed
The Code clearly states that you must not:
- Groom children or their parents
- Have unnecessary physical contact with children
- Put children in situations where they could be at risk of abuse
- Take or keep photos/videos of children without proper permission
Relationships Outside of College
There are strict guidelines about relationships with students outside of school. This includes roles like:
- Youth group leaders
- Family friends
- Sports coaches
Final Note
The full Child Safe Code of Conduct is just three pages long—short enough to read easily. If you haven’t read it yet, now’s a good time.
