Week 6 Update

It has been a busy week at school, students have enjoyed completing learning within the classroom, playing games in the yard and participating in a range of extracurricular activities including the hockey clinics. Week 7 sees the start of NAPLAN, students from grades 3 and 5 will complete the NAPLAN assessments across the week.

Julie is absent from school until the 16th of March; I will be in the Acting Principal Role for this period. Please don't hesitate to contact me if required.

NAPLAN – Years 3 & 5

NAPLAN testing for our Year 3 and Year 5 students will begin on Wednesday 11th March. The assessments will conclude on Wednesday 18th March. Tests will include Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy.

NAPLAN is just one way we gather information about student learning and progress. We encourage students to simply do their best and approach the assessments with a calm and positive mindset.

To support your child, please ensure they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive at school on time. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Hockey Clinics

Over the past week many of the students have participated in hockey clinics. The students enjoyed the fun games and activities that were provided.

Curriculum Day feedback

On Monday all staff participated in a learning walk of Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School, the focus was transitions and promoting positive behaviour. Staff also completed a session regarding inclusion, developing plans and strategies to include all students in the learning. it was great to have the day to commit to the ongoing development of our staff.

SunSmart Policy: Hats On

All students are required to wear their broad brimmed hats, even when playing or participating in activities under any shelters.

Our SunSmart Policy is based upon the Cancer Council guidelines that hats should be worn when UV levels are above 3 on the index (usually around the beginning of September in each year). We source this information from the following website:  www.bom.gov.au/products/UV/Bendigo_VIC.shtml

Please remember that only our school hats may be worn. These can be purchased from the office for $12.

Yard rules and expectations

It is great to see students participating in a wide range of activities such as tiggy/chasey, basketball and playing on the equipment, it is important that students are following the school rules, walking in designated areas, keeping hands off and sand stays in the sandpit. Staff are on the lookout for positive behaviour in the yard.

1st September… Hats Remember.

1st May… Hats off Day.

Jump Rope for Heart

At assembly Mrs Rogers spoke to the school community about participating in Jump Rope for Heart. Students are able to raise money and may be awarded prizes, information about this has been sent home. Students will have access to skipping ropes at school as part of this.

Clean Up Australia Day

Students and staff will participate in Clean Up Australia Day by helping tidy our school grounds. Equipped with gloves, buckets and tongs, students will work together to collect rubbish and care for the environment. It is a great opportunity to show pride in our school and learn the importance of keeping our community clean.

Communication

As parents and carers, you will at times need to meet with classroom teachers to clarify classroom programs and sometimes discuss problems that may have arisen. The teachers and Leadership Team will endeavour to meet and discuss any range of school issues as soon as possible, however, please be aware staff meetings occur each Tuesday and Wednesday nights straight after school. There is an assumption all teachers will attend meetings on time. No teacher will dismiss your question or concerns, so calling to organise a time to meet will ensure the question or issue can be addressed with plenty of time and no interruptions. Don’t forget you can always message on ClassDojo, email or call the school on 54 107 700.
