Stage 2 News

Year 3

Year 3 have had a wonderful start to the year as they transition into the primary part of the school and become familiar with new routines and expectations. The children have settled in beautifully and are showing great enthusiasm for their learning.

We have begun exploring the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown, using it as a model to learn about the structure of a narrative, including setting, characters, problem and resolution. As part of this exciting unit, students have designed their own “flat” characters, which they will take on imaginative journeys to inspire and develop their storytelling and writing skills. We are so proud of their creativity and positive start to the year!

Year 4

Students have been reading and analysing Fire and Flood by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley to explore the impact of natural disasters in Australia and the effects of the environment. Through these texts, students have developed a deeper understanding of the Australian climate and the strategies communities use to protect themselves and others. To support their learning, students created chalk artworks to demonstrate the effects of bushfires on the environment and constructed a “visualisation river” to sequence and represent the key events in Flood, strengthening both their comprehension and creative expression.
