Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) at Hurstville Public School

At Hurstville Public School, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) – a whole-school, evidence-based framework that supports students’ social, emotional, behavioural and academic success

Our shared language and expectations are simple and consistent. At HPS, we are:

Respectful – Responsible – Learners.

You’ll see PBL signage in all areas of the school to help students make positive choices, and staff explicitly teach and reinforce these expectations each day.

How we recognise positive behaviour

Students can receive a Values in Action award when they demonstrate our school values as a Respectful, Responsible Learner.

PBL Parent Brochure FINAL

Our award system works like this:

  • 5 Values in Action Awards = 1 Bronze Award
  • 5 Bronze Awards = 1 Silver Award
  • 2 Silver Awards = 1 Gold Award
  • 2 Gold Awards = Medal
  • 3rd Gold Award = PBL Badge

Gold award, medal and badge recipients will be published fortnightly in the Belltower, and these award recipients will be presented at the following week’s Monday morning assembly.

How families can help

Families play an important role in making PBL successful. You can support your child by:

  • Using the language Respectful, Responsible Learners at home
  • Encouraging respectful and responsible behaviour at school and at home
  • Talking with your child about the PBL signage you see around the school
  • Reading the Parent Belltower for updates and celebrations
