Prayer and Acknowledgement

Habemus Papam!
We have a Pope!
It is with great joy that we receive the news that Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the Bishop of Rome and the Successor of Peter the Apostle, choosing the name Leo.
Born in Chicago, Pope Leo XIV was ordained a priest for the Augustinian order in 1982. He was elected a provincial for the Augustinian order in 1999 and in September 2015 he was named bishop of Chiclayo in Peru. In 2023, Pope Francis appointment him the Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.
We give thanks for the election of Pope Leo, who now takes up the role of guiding the Church with wisdom, faith, and love.
Pope Leo brings a spirit of hope and renewal to his ministry. In his first words to the world, he spoke gently but clearly about his desire to lead a Church that listens deeply, walks humbly, and reaches out with compassion to those most in need. His vision reminds us that the heart of the Church is not only in Rome, but in every parish, home, and classroom where God's love is shared.
As a school and parish community, we pray for Pope Leo as he begins this sacred mission. May we support him with our prayers and follow his example of kindness, courage, and joy in the Gospel.
May the Lord grant Pope Leo XIV the grace and strength to guide the Universal Church with wisdom and courage.
Heavenly Father,
We thank you for our new Pope, Leo.
Guide him with your Holy Spirits so he may lead the Church with wisdom and love.
Bless his words and actions, and help us to listen and follow you always.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
