Grade 3/4 Learning Update

Hi families,

It has been a busy few weeks in Grade 3/4, with lots of learning happening both in and out of the classroom!

In Writing, students have completed their newspaper recount unit. Many students created engaging articles about a rescue, drawing on the skills they have been developing throughout the unit. These included organising events clearly, adding relevant details, using reported speech and including the thoughts and reactions of those involved.

In Maths, our focus has been location. Students began by using directional and positional language to describe where objects are located and how to move from one place to another. They then applied this understanding to maps and grids, using grid references to locate and describe positions. Some students extended their learning by exploring coordinates on the Cartesian plane.

In Reading, students have been exploring onomatopoeia and how authors use sound words to bring a text to life. Students particularly enjoyed finding examples and thinking about how different words can help a reader imagine not only what a sound might sound like, but how it might feel or contribute to the mood of a text.

During Discovery, students have been exploring health messages and considering what makes them clear and effective. They have also created health messages of their own and explored how positive actions and choices can contribute to healthy and respectful relationships.

We have also successfully completed two weeks of swimming! Our Grade 3/4 students did a fantastic job managing the busy routine of getting to the pool, changing, participating in their lessons and returning to school. A big thank you to our students, staff and parent volunteers for helping the program run so smoothly.

Looking ahead, Grade 3/4 Camp will take place from 7–10 October, during the first week of Term 4. The Compass event will go live this week, so families are encouraged to keep an eye out for further information.

With just over two weeks of Term 3 remaining, we hope everyone enjoys the upcoming break and has the chance to rest and recharge before an exciting Term 4!
