Helping Your Child Succeed at School

As we move through the school year, it is a great time to remind our students that small habits can make a big difference to learning and success at school. Parents and families play an important role in helping children develop positive attitudes, good routines and a strong sense of responsibility.
Stay Positive
Encourage your child to have a positive attitude towards school and learning. Talk positively about their efforts and celebrate their progress. Remind them that mistakes are an important part of learning and that persistence matters.
Be Learning Focused
Show an interest in what your child is learning at school. Ask questions such as, “What did you learn today?” or “What was something you found interesting or challenging?”
Reading regularly, practising basic skills and talking about everyday experiences all help build important learning skills.
Be Organised and Ready for School
Good routines at home help children arrive at school ready to learn. Encourage your child to get enough sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, prepare their school bag and have everything they need ready for the day.
Reducing screen time before bed can also help children wind down and get a better night's sleep. Establishing a calm bedtime routine, with some time away from devices before going to bed, can help children feel more rested and ready to learn the next day.
How Can Parents Help?
- Establish a consistent bedtime and morning routine.
- Encourage your child to arrive at school on time and ready to learn.

Communicate with the school if you have any concerns.
