Dear families and friends of Merino Consolidated School,
Welcome arrival
Congratulations to Miss Bailey and her partner Will Kerr on the safe arrival of their beautiful son, Billy James Kerr, born on Wednesday 19 August. We wish the family lots of love, happiness and precious moments together as they begin this exciting new chapter.
Sandpit
Unfortunately, we had to lose one of our beautiful trees as it was too close to our shelter-in-place building (hall) but we can always create something new out of something not so new! So now we have a sandpit!
Thank you to Jason Henty-Anderson for our amazing sandpit. The students have thoroughly enjoyed creating new worlds. There has been a great amount of engineering, consultation, problem solving and collaboration occurring whilst in the new sandpit.
English lessons
The junior class are now authors and illustrators of their own book. We will have to wait and see if these come true!!
- Oliver – “When I grow up, I would like to be a famous rapper and travel the world!”
- Mak – “When I grow up, I would like to be an illustrator of magical books.”
- Indi – “When I grow up, I would like to be a baker, an artist and make books.”
- Lincoln – “when I grow up, I would like to a farmer and a firefighter just like my dad!”
- Charlie- “When I grow up, I would like to be a pop star, an artist and a firefighter!”
Charlotte – “When I grow up, I would like to be a piano player where I can close my eyes and sing as well!”
The author Andy Griffiths took part in a webinar from the State Library of Victoria in the lead up to Book Week. The Year 4-6 class watched this session and designed a book cover for Andy’s new book. We uploaded these as part of a competition to win a signed copy of his new book. Some students from the junior class also completed a cover that was uploaded.
Lightning Prems in Coleraine August 18th
The senior students travelled over to Coleraine for a day of netball or football with schools from the Coleraine, Casterton and Cavendish area. Our seniors all decided to play football. Kou and Rylan’s’ team were the runners up in the Year 3 &4 competition. Britt Parry (our superstar former footballer) coached a Year 5 & 6 team with Xavier playing. Xavier played brilliantly and kicked two goals but was injured for the last game. Thanks to the families who came over cheered our students. The juniors especially loved the canteen. The dimsims were a big hit!!!!
VSBA (Building works)
The junior and the senior class have now moved into the Library and art room for the remainder of the term whilst the restumping of the classrooms occurs. The toilet block is undergoing works with new flooring as well. The flooring team has been busy sanding back all the old paint on the floor and preparing for the new vinyl to be laid. The renovations will now go into next term, with the exterior painting of the art/library rooms and kitchen to be completed.
Book Week
What a fantastic Book Week Day we had!
A huge thank you to all our families for the wonderful effort that went into the children’s costumes. It was also wonderful to see parents and family members getting dressed up and joining in the fun. Your enthusiasm made the day even more special!
A special thank you to our staff for all their hard work in organising and helping throughout the day. It was wonderful to see our whole school community celebrating books, treasure hunts, reading and imagination together.
