Spring School Holiday Program
Week 8 - Recap
This week at Lalor East TheirCare, the children enjoyed participating in a variety of engaging group activities that supported teamwork, creativity, problem-solving and communication.
Children worked collaboratively with their peers to complete a range of puzzle challenges. They shared ideas, took turns and encouraged one another as they explored different ways to solve each puzzle.
Our outdoor cubby houses inspired imaginative dramatic play, with children pretending to prepare and cook meals together. This experience encouraged creativity, cooperation and the development of social and communication skills. Children also participated in a model aeroplane-making activity.
They created and decorated their own aeroplanes, wrote their names on them and worked alongside their friends to test how well they could fly. This activity supported fine motor skills, creativity and early scientific thinking as children explored movement, distance and flight.
We also introduced magnetic alphabet letters to our learning environment. Children used the letters to create their names and write positive messages for one another. This experience promoted letter recognition, spelling, literacy development and kindness among peers. It was wonderful to see the children learning through play, sharing their ideas and building positive relationships throughout the week.
Week 7 - Recap
This week, the children enjoyed a variety of engaging and educational experiences. During our science experiment, they explored what happens when vinegar and baking soda are mixed. The children observed the bubbling chemical reaction, shared their predictions and discussed why the ingredients changed when combined. The children also worked collaboratively to complete puzzles. They sat together, exchanged ideas and used problem-solving skills to find where each piece belonged. This experience encouraged patience, communication and teamwork. In the gym, the children participated in basketball games, developing their coordination, confidence and ability to work cooperatively as a team.
They also expressed their creativity through a range of arts and crafts experiences. Our restaurant dramatic-play area was another highlight. While taking turns as customers, chefs and servers, the children practised their social skills and used pretend money to count, calculate prices and pay for their meals. This playful experience supported their early mathematical understanding while encouraging imagination and positive interactions with their peers.
Week 6 - Recap
This week in Before and After School Care, the children participated in a variety of fun and educational experiences. While making slime, they explored measurements, textures and how ingredients change when mixed. During our tower-building challenge, children used problem-solving, creativity and teamwork to design strong and stable structures.
The children also practised a fire drill evacuation, developing their understanding of emergency procedures and the importance of following instructions calmly and safely. Soccer in the gym supported coordination, teamwork and good sportsmanship, while completing puzzles encouraged concentration, patience and logical thinking.
