Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear parents, carers and our community of Hazel Glen College,

A warm welcome back to Term 2. We have been fortunate to have the lovely weather stay with us a bit longer this year. Our students have returned to school well rested and ready for the busy term ahead.

The first week back was busy with our Year 4-6 Cross Country that was held at the College last week. We are proud of all of our students and the excellent level of participation in this event and the peer engagement. Our senior Primary Years students really are great role models for our younger students. I thank our Primary Years Physical Education Team Ashley Mai and Anthony Silipo for their organisation and running of the event.

On Friday, we held our Primary Years Anzac Service in the gym. This formal event is a time for our students and staff to acknowledge past and present service people. This important occasion gives our students the opportunity to learn about the ANZAC spirit of courage, resilience, teamwork and looking after one another. It provides us with an important opportunity to reflect on values that continue to guide us today. I was also fortunate to attend the Laurimar Dawn Service, and this shows me what a great community we have. Community service people were acknowledged at the end of the service, both past and present serving. They are humble and important members of our community and the service was a moving event. Our Performing Arts Academy students performed the musical items and our captains read a speech and laid wreaths in commemoration.

We held our Prep 2027 Information Evening on Tuesday and were pleased to see many families in attendance taking the time to find out more about our Primary Years. We were proud to have student leaders support with presenting about their experiences at Hazel Glen College and our families were very impressed with what our Primary Years has to offer both now and for important future pathways as a beacon College within our local community. We continue to hold tours and you can book through here: https://www.hgc.vic.edu.au/tours-information-evenings/. We will also begin our Ready Prep Go program. Enrolments are open now, so if you know of anyone seeking a school for a Prep student next year, be sure to let them know to give us a call or to drop by the Primary Years Administration for a visit.

Mother's Day is approaching soon and we warmly welcome families to attend our buffet breakfast on Friday 8th May 2026, from 7:15am to 8:30am.  More details can be found on Compass. The Mother's Day stall will be held on Tuesday 5th of May.

Remember to book a tour for our Secondary Years, if your child will be transitioning to Year 7 next year to see the opportunities and facilities that Hazel Glen College offers to students and families.
