Our Year 6 Leaders are running a Play Club for every year level across the week, where they facilitate safe, inclusive, and fun games during break times. Through these sessions, students are building positive connections across year levels and creating a welcoming and active recess environment. This week was particularly special, with our Prep students attending their very first Play Club, supported by our enthusiastic and responsible Year 6 leaders.

The Play Program is an evidence‑based wellbeing approach designed to support student connection and engagement in the yard. Last term, our Year 6 student leaders completed training to confidently lead structured activities that encourage physical activity, cooperation, inclusion, and social skill development for students of all ages and abilities.

Through participation in the Play Program, students are supported to develop:

  • Increased social inclusion and connection
  • Improved confidence and self‑esteem
  • Stronger emotional wellbeing and resilience
  • Leadership and teamwork skills
  • Increased engagement and positive behaviour in the playground

We are proud of our Year 6 leaders for the positive way they have embraced this responsibility and for the care they are showing in supporting younger students. We look forward to seeing the Play Program continue to strengthen connections and promote a sense of belonging across our Primary Years.

Year 2 Excursion to Myuna Farm

On Thursday the 30th of April, students in Year 2 attended an exciting excursion to Myuna Farm. The day was filled with engaging, hands-on experiences, with students participating in four key activities.

Students began with the Farm Show, where everyone had the opportunity to milk a goat. While this was a new and slightly challenging experience for many, it was also a highlight of the day and brought plenty of laughter.

The next activity was paddock feeding, where students encountered a range of animals including sheep, goats, alpacas and even Alice the camel. This experience allowed students to interact closely with the animals and learn about their care, with many animals eagerly approaching for food.

Students then took part in Farm School, where they learned about the journey food takes from the paddock to the table. This session provided valuable insights into the work of farmers and the processes involved in food production.

The final activity was a visit to the Produce Garden, where students explored how crops are grown and maintained. They learned about the importance of caring for plants to ensure healthy growth.

Overall, the excursion was highly enjoyable with many new memories created! It was a fabulous introduction to their Curiosity unit 'Raw to Ready'.

Hazel Glen College: Sports Update

Purple Power: A Stellar Term on the Cricket Pitch!

It has been an action-packed term for our Year 6 Purple Cricket Teams, and we couldn't be prouder of the way our students represented Hazel Glen College. Whether batting, bowling, or fielding, our cricketers showcased exceptional talent and, more importantly, a commitment to our core College values.

Throughout the district competition, every student displayed Respect for their opponents and officials, took Responsibility for their roles within the team, and showed incredible Resilience when the games got tight.

Girls Team: A Gritty Second-Place Finish

Our Girls Purple Team had a sensational run this term. Their improvement in skill and tactical awareness from the first training session to the final match was a joy to watch.

The girls were a dominant force, winning all but one of their games. Their teamwork and encouragement of one another led them to a fantastic second-place finish in the district. Congratulations to the team for such a high-achieving season and for competing with such a positive spirit!

Boys Team: Undefeated District Champions!

The Boys Purple Team put on a clinical display of cricket this term, remaining undefeated across every single match. Their hard work at training translated into sharp fielding and powerful batting displays on game days.

By finishing top of the district, the boys have officially earned their spot to progress through to the Division finals. We wish them the best of luck as they move forward to represent Hazel Glen at the next level. Keep up that momentum, boys!

It wasn't just about the scoreboard this term; it was about the growth in character and the way our students supported each other through every over. That is the true HGC spirit.

A huge thank you to the teachers and parents who supported the teams this term. We look forward to seeing our boys compete in the upcoming Division matches!

Go Hazel Glen!

Year 6 Proactive Policing Unit Cyber-safety

This week, our Year 6 students participated in an important Cyber Safety session led by the Mill Park Proactive Policing Unit. The session provided students with valuable information about responsible online behaviour and the serious impact cyberbullying can have on individuals and the wider community.

During the presentation, students learned about the different forms cyberbullying can take, including harassment, exclusion, and inappropriate online communication. Police officers highlighted the real‑life consequences of online actions and reinforced that behaviour online should reflect the same respect and kindness we expect face‑to‑face.

Students also explored the importance of protecting personal information online, including understanding what information is safe to share, who they are sharing it with, and how digital footprints can last. The session encouraged students to think carefully before posting or responding online and to recognise situations where they may need to seek help from a trusted adult.

This learning strongly supports our ongoing focus in the Primary Years on being safe, respectful, and responsible digital citizens. The session reinforced strategies for standing up to cyberbullying, supporting others, and making positive choices when using technology.

We thank the Mill Park Proactive Policing Unit for their engaging and informative presentation, and we look forward to continuing to work in partnership with families to support our students to navigate the online world safely and confidently.
