Acting Assistant Principal Update

Welcome to Week 6.

It is a big week for our youngest learners, as our Preps are having their very first full week of school! For all of February, they have been enjoying a Wednesday midweek recovery day. While this gives them a much-needed rest as they transition into school life, these Wednesdays also serve an important purpose for prep teachers, getting an opportunity to conduct learning interviews with each student to tailor their learning. Now that we've rolled into March, they are stepping up to full-time attendance.

We are excited to mark this occasion at the Prep Parent Welcome Night tonight from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

APS Rights, Values and Learner Dispositions

The rights, values, and learner dispositions at APS come up so many times each day! It was wonderful getting the opportunity to speak to everyone at last Friday's assembly about our school value of Kindness. I particularly enjoyed pointing out the difference between visible and invisible kindness: the kindness that others can easily see, versus the kindness that comes from words, time, and effort that often goes unseen. I think both are incredibly important to our APS community.

This week, our focus shifts to Curiosity. Being curious means being an inquisitive thinker and having a strong desire to acquire new knowledge and skills. This week provides some fantastic, unique learning opportunities for our students to put this value into practice. At the time of writing, our Grade 5 students have just headed out for a wonderful excursion to the Botanic Gardens, and on Thursday, there will no doubt be a lot of excitement for some of our senior students attending the Formula 1 Excursion. I hope all students attending these events lean into their curiosity, are enthusiastic, and ask plenty of questions!

School Council Election Ballot Reminder

A final reminder that voting for the School Council closes today, Wednesday 4 March at 4:00pm. You can deliver your completed ballot (in the envelope) to the school office. The ballots will be counted Thursday 5 March from 8:30am, and the poll will be declared on Friday 6 March.

Class Liaisons

Class liaison parents fulfil an important social and cultural role within our school community, acting as a link between parents for social events and school committees. We will be holding an information session for all Class Liaisons this Friday 6 March at 9:15am.

  • Location: Staff Learning Centre (Level 1, Administration Building).
  • Details: This will be a short, informal session to review the liaison role and expectations, cover essential induction items, and give everyone a chance to meet and connect.

We are still looking for parent volunteers for the following classes: 6A, 4A, 4D, 3KC, and 1J. If you are interested in filling one of these roles, please get in touch with the respective classroom teacher directly.

Week 7: NAPLAN 2026 and Camp for the Grade 6s

We have two big events kicking off next week! First, our Year 6 students will be heading off on their Camp from Tuesday 10 March, returning on Friday 13 March. We know they are going to have a fantastic time.

Additionally, NAPLAN Online will be held for students in Years 3 and 5 starting next Wednesday 11 March through until Friday 20 March. A final reminder that if you do not wish for your child to participate in NAPLAN, you need to contact the school by this Friday 6 March so that we can provide you with the documentation to withdraw your child from the tests.

With the Labour Day long weekend coming up on Monday, I hope it provides a great chance for all students to recharge before the final stretch of the term.

Have a great week everyone!
