General News & Reminders

Waste Free Wednesday
Library news
This term our Foundation students have been visiting the library every Tuesday for their 50 minute session. We have enjoyed many stories and the students have had plenty of time to learn and practise library routines when browsing and borrowing. The students have had the opportunity to borrow non-fiction books and are recognising the differences between fiction and non-fiction books.
The students drew some terrific pictures to show what we do in the library as a reminder that Tuesday is their library day. These are on display in the library. They certainly had some great ideas.
Over the last 2 weeks we read some dinosaur books to support the classroom investigations program. We read Dinosaur Encore by Patricia Mullins and focussed on the way Patricia uses tissue paper to create her illustrations. This week we read Dinosaurs Wear Underpants by Claire Freedman. The students coloured in some very fancy underpants on some rather fierce T-Rex dinosaurs. They too will be on display.
Please remind your children to put their library books into their library bag to return them to school on, or before, library day - Tuesday. Then they can swap their books for new ones to read and share with you and your family. It is extremely valuable to show an interest in the books your child brings home as they are very excited to be selecting their own books. They do not need to read the books aloud to you. Read and share their books with them at any opportunity to help foster a love of reading and to help them on their learning to read journey.
HPS School Breakfast Clubs Program has expanded!
HPS has accepted a very generous invitation by Foodbank Victoria to participate in Cooking Classes, as part of the expanding School Breakfast Clubs Program, and we are currently recruiting families to join in!
This free program is funded by the Victorian Government Department of Education and Training, and will support families to learn new skills in the kitchen and beyond.
The Cooking Classes are focused on bringing families together in the school environment to learn healthy eating habits.
The program aims to provide a hands-on experience, where families will cook and enjoy a meal together, and be provided with a hamper, stocked with fresh and staple ingredients to take home.
Sessions will run one afternoon per week, for four weeks during a school term, and be delivered by a trained Foodbank Victoria Facilitator. The program will be offered for up to 10 HPS families.
Date: Thursdays – 30 April and 7, 14 & 21 May 2026
Duration: 4 consecutive weeks (1 day per week)
Time: After school – time TBC
Cost: FREE
Please contact our School Key Contact, Sue Zerna Suzanne.Zerna@education.vic.gov.au, to find out how to register for this fantastic program!
