Assistant Principals' Report

Hello and welcome to our newsletter item for this week.

Mathematics and numeracy at home

As your child’s first teacher, you play an important role in helping develop their numeracy skills from an early age. As such, we always look for opportunities to share with parents and carers how they can support their children with learning in an authentic way from home.

In collaboration with the Victorian Mathematics Ambassadors, the Department have created a Strengthen Number Sense at Home Series to share with parents and carers with resources and videos to unpack number concepts children learn in their early years, providing simple activities for families to practice at home.

The videos unpack 4 number sense concepts that students need to master in their early years of schooling. It shows what number sense looks like at school and provides simple activities that families can practice at home, at the supermarket and at the park.

The concepts unpacked include:

  • one-to-one correspondence
  • subitising
  • partitioning (part–part–whole)
  • teen numbers

Please see below link for videos, tips and other resources;

Please note: The tips are also available as accessible word documents and have been translated into 10 additional languages: English, Arabic, Chinese – simplified, Chinese – traditional, Dari, Farsi, Hindi, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu and Vietnamese.

Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to attend our information session regarding our take home reading program across Foundation to Year 2. Links and information to access the presentation from home will be available via Compass in the coming weeks.

And finally, a huge thank you to our Year 3 and Year 5 students, teachers, parents and carers for their organisation and participation in NAPLAN, 2026. We started with a bit of technical difficulties on day 1, however the rest of our test sessions went smoothly and the students and staff did a fabulous job. Thank you!

Have a great weekend and week ahead.
