Plant of the Week: Duckweed

Duckweed is a tiny, free-floating aquatic plant that you can find in still or slow-moving water. I've been keeping some myself! It's great for adding to a pond or an aquarium, and if you don't have those, a glass jar works perfectly. You can also feed it to your ornamental fish, including both tropical and cold-water varieties. If you'd like some, please bring a small container with a lid next Thursday.

The Garden Shop

We've been busy making new items for our Garden Shop! We'll be selling student-made goods to help us raise money for new equipment. So far, we've made seed envelopes, planter boxes, and herb strippers. We'll also be selling seeds and plant cuttings. We will announce the opening when we have sufficient stock levels. We thank you for your patience.

Volunteers

If you can't make it to Garden Club but still want to help out, we'd love some volunteers for the following tasks:

1. Collecting sticks

2. Collecting ladybugs

3. Gathering more compost for our worm farms

4. Collecting packaging to make useful things for the club, like plastic meat trays for our planter boxes

5. Making origami planter boxes and seed envelopes

We know that some kids would love to join but their arrival time at school is right before lessons start. If this is the case, please feel free to chat with me, Mr. Choong, at the playground.

When is Garden Club?

Garden Club happens on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, right after the gates open. We meet at the bubblers on the Churchill Avenue side of the school. Garden Club is completely FREE to join! It's a great opportunity to learn to be a lateral thinker with limited resources, get first pick after a harvest and see some fascinating creatures.
