A message from the eSafety Commissioner
With the rising use of social media, gaming and messaging apps, online conflicts can escalate quickly leading to exclusion, harassment and cyberbullying.
How can parents and carers help?
Keep the conversation open: two-thirds of young people turn to parents when something goes wrong online.
Avoid taking away their devices: this can make them feel more isolated.
Show them how to collect evidence and report abuse.
If the platform doesn’t help, report to eSafety for extra support.
Encourage them to seek help from services like Kids Helpline Official.
Together, we can equip young people with the skills to thrive online while staying safe. Read on for more insights and tips:

LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH WHILE YOU MAKE NEW FRIENDS
Are you too shy to talk to people because you cannot speak English very well? Well, you can improve your English because Killester College runs a ‘Conversational English Class for adults’ every Monday morning from 10.00am till 12.00pm during school term, for parents, family members and friends. Classes are fun, where you are safe to try your new language skills in a friendly place. You will learn words that you may use every day while at the same time making new friends who will encourage you to talk in English. We also talk about things that are happening in our community.
We would love you to join us in 2025 to help improve your English and at the same time have lots of fun in the Family Learning Centre at Killester College. Please sign in at the office.
Queries can be directed to Loreto Cannon lcannon@killester.vic.edu.au . We hope to see you there.
