Uniform Update
At Heathmont College, we take pride in our inclusive, practical and student-focused approach to school uniform. The uniform was designed and developed through extensive consultation and collaboration with students and families to make it as flexible, accessible and adaptable as possible.
We believe, and our values reflect, the importance of providing students and families with uniform options that are affordable, comfortable and fit for purpose.
The Student Dress Code aims to:
- Foster a sense of community and belonging and encourage students to develop pride in their appearance.
- Support Heathmont College’s commitment to ensuring that our students feel equal and are dressed safely and appropriately for school activities.
- Ensure Heathmont College students are easily recognisable in and out of school settings.
- Reduce student competition or disadvantage based on clothing.
Enhance the profile and identity of the school and its students within the wider community.
Like all schools, we periodically review how well our everyday expectations are being upheld. With the support of our community, we will be introducing several measures to provide greater clarity, consistency and encouragement for students to wear the correct uniform each day.
As a staff, we have committed to focus on the key uniform expectations outlined below and will be conducting regular spot checks to ensure students are wearing the correct school uniform. If a student is without the correct item, a teacher will verbally remind them of the expectation, and a uniform chronicle will be completed which automatically allocates the student to a lunch time detention.
Repeated violation of the below expectations will be further actioned by the student management team if required.
As parents, your support is crucial in this process. Please support your child by checking that they have the correct uniform ready the night before and encouraging them to wear it correctly each day. A consistent routine at home helps students arrive at school prepared and ready to learn.
Take the opportunity to discuss with your child the importance of wearing a school uniform. Our uniform fosters a sense of belonging, promotes equity by reducing visible differences between students, and reflects the pride we share in being part of the Heathmont College community. When students understand the purpose behind these expectations, they are more likely to value and embrace them.
If your family is experiencing difficulty obtaining uniform items or there are circumstances that may affect your child's ability to meet our uniform expectations, please contact the College. We are committed to working with families to find practical and supportive solutions. Please reach out to the coordination or wellbeing teams, if this is the case.
Key Focus Areas
- Footwear (OHS): Black leather school shoes or runners only. VET work boots permissible if required for safety (program dependent).
- Hoodies must be Heathmont College uniform hoodies only.
- Base Layers: Any undershirts or thermal tops must be fully concealed.
- Pants: Navy is our standard expectation.
- Logos should be Heathmont or none
Year 12 Uniform Pilot
As our Year 12 students enter the final stages of their schooling journey, we recognise that this is a unique and demanding period of their education. In acknowledgement of their maturity, leadership and the significant contribution they make to our college community, we will be introducing a Year 12 Uniform Pilot Policy.
Under the pilot, from the beginning of Week 5, Year 12 students will have the option of wearing neat, appropriate clothing place of the standard school uniform, provided they wear an official Heathmont College school jumper or jacket while on campus. This ensures our senior students remain clearly identifiable as members of the Heathmont College community while providing them with greater flexibility during their final year.
This initiative recognises the maturity, responsibility and leadership expected of our Year 12 students. We are confident they will approach this privilege with maturity and continue to set a positive example for the wider school community.
The pilot will be monitored and reviewed throughout the year to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our senior students while supporting the values, culture and expectations of Heathmont College.
