Wellbeing At McAuley

🌿 Wellbeing in the School Holidays 🌿

As we head into the school holidays, it is a wonderful opportunity for children and families to slow down, reconnect and enjoy some time together. Holidays don't need to be busy or expensive to support children's wellbeing. Sometimes the simplest moments can be the most meaningful!

Here are a few simple wellbeing ideas to try during the break:

🌳 Get Outside - Spend some time outdoors each day. Go for a walk, ride a bike, visit a park, play in the backyard or simply enjoy some fresh air and sunshine.

💬 Make Time to Talk - Use everyday moments to check in with your child. Ask questions such as, "What was the best part of your day?" or "What is something you are looking forward to?" Listening and talking helps children feel connected and supported.

❤️ Connect with Others - Spend time with family, friends, grandparents or members of your community. Shared experiences and positive relationships are important for children's wellbeing.

🎨 Make Time for Play and Creativity - Encourage children to draw, colour, build, bake, dance, make things or play imaginative games. There doesn't always need to be a finished product — enjoying the process is what matters!

🧘 Take Time to Rest - Children need opportunities to slow down too. Enjoy a quiet afternoon, read a book, listen to music, practise some mindful breathing or simply have some unstructured time.

😊 Practise Gratitude - At the end of the day, talk about one thing you are thankful for. It could be something big or something very simple — a delicious meal, time with family, a funny moment or being outside in the sunshine.

📱 Have a Digital Balance - Enjoy technology together while also making space for screen-free activities. Try setting aside some times during the day for devices to be put away and family connection to take centre stage.

⭐ Let Children Help - Give children opportunities to contribute at home — helping prepare a meal, looking after a pet, tidying up or helping in the garden. Small responsibilities can help children develop confidence, independence and a sense of belonging.

Most importantly, remember that wellbeing is about connection, not perfection. There may be busy days, quiet days, happy moments and challenging moments — and that's okay.

We hope our students and families enjoy a safe, restful and happy holiday break. Take the opportunity to slow down, connect, play, laugh and make some special memories together.

🌼 Wishing all our McAuley families a wonderful holiday! 🌼
