Feast of Mary Mackillop

On Saturday 8 August, we celebrate the Feast of St Mary Mackillop of the Cross, Australia’s first Saint. The lyrics above come from the opening verse of the song Beneath a Cross of Stars by Andrew Chinn, and they do indeed capture the essence of the amazing person that was Mary Mackillop.

Across this week, students in different year levels have investigated some of Mary’s many inspirational quotes, with a particular emphasis on how we can live like her. You might like to chat to your child about the quotes below - they are indeed aspirational and inspirational, even for us as adults!

Prep

“Never see a need without doing something about it.”

Year 1

“See and be grateful!”

Year 2

“Find happiness in making others happy.”

Year 3

“Do all you can to work in unity.”

Year 4

“There where you are, you will find God.”

Year 5

“Let no obstacle deter us from proceeding with courage.”

Year 6

“We are but travellers here.”

Eucharist

  • Congratulations to the 30 students who received Eucharist at St Anne’s Church for the first time on Sunday afternoon. Our second group of 34 students will be receiving the Blessed Sacrament this coming Sunday at 2:30pm. We ask that you keep these young people in your prayers as they strive to live out the challenge set by Fr Denis at the conclusion of Sunday’s Mass -  go out and be a blessing to others in all that you say and do.

Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou!

Whether you donated, attended, bid in the auctions, bought raffle tickets, enjoyed a drink, volunteered your time, or helped behind the scenes, your kindness and generosity made this event such a success.

We are incredibly grateful to all of our sponsors and local businesses who donated prizes and supported our event.

Thankyou to the St Annes staff members who came along to show their support. Words cannot express how grateful we are to Marina and her amazing band for volunteering their time to entertain us all.

Seeing our community come together in such an amazing way has been overwhelming and something we will never forget.

Woodlands Division Soccer

  • Newsletter - Soccer Division Finals

On Wednesday 29th July, our Year 6 students proudly represented St Anne’s at the Soccer Division Finals.

The soccer team played their hearts out till the end of the day. The soccer team passed the ball well and worked together even in hideous weather but the team got through and fought really hard. The players showed respect to their opponents and their teammates.

They worked together to get a win in the first game 2-1 and were at the top with 3 points and in their second game they lost 1-2 and finished second on the table. They got to the semi-finals where they versed Oscar Romero Catholic Primary School, where that game was one of the best they played throughout the division finals. The score was a high scoring game with it being 5-6 And St Annes lost in extra time. The boys worked their hearts out and should have won that match but got very very unlucky.

Thanks to the parents for taking your time to come to the finals and for taking your kid to the division finals and a big thanks to Loris that took up a lot of his time to help the boys make it this far so thank you everyone. Well done boys and keep it up lets go St Annes.

  • Year 6 Soccer Division Finals

On Wednesday 29th July, our Year 6 students proudly represented St Anne’s at the Soccer Division Finals.

It was wonderful to see our students demonstrate our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Safety throughout the day. They showed respect towards their teammates, opposition players and officials, took responsibility for their roles on and off the field and made safe and positive choices while representing our school.

The team displayed outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership, making it all the way through to the semi-finals. We are incredibly proud of the effort, determination and resilience our students demonstrated, especially while competing in the pouring rain!

Thank you to our students for representing our school with such pride. Your commitment, positive attitude and dedication were wonderful to see, and you should be proud of the way you upheld our school values.

A sincere thank you to all of our parents and families who came along to support and cheer on the team throughout the day. Your encouragement and enthusiasm meant so much to our students, and we truly appreciate your ongoing support.

What a fantastic day! Well done, Year 6!

    Miss Heidi
