Prayer

God our Father, hear our prayers for a truly fruitful Lent. May our efforts in prayer and our deeds of mercy lead us to renewal, reconciliation and Easter Joy.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

LENT ~ 'a time for renewing faith, hope & love' (Pope Francis)

Project Compassion

Last week, each family received a small Project Compassion box to keep at home during Lent. We are particularly encouraged during Lent to give greater attention to those who might be in need.

One way we are able to do this as a Catholic Community is by supporting Project Compassion run by CARITAS Australia and over the next forty days of Lent we should be looking to make monetary contributions (big or small) to these boxes.

We are aware of many local families doing it tough given the current circumstances so prayers for those in need and random acts of kindness that don't cost money can be just as good as a monetary contribution!

Masses & Liturgies - Shrove Tuesday

Last week we celebrated Shrove Tuesday! A special thanks to Mrs Dewhurst & Mrs Westhorpe for organising pancakes for us all to enjoy - we appreciate you!

Have you ever wondered why it's called 'Shrove Tuesday'?

It comes from the word 'shrive', which means to give absolution after hearing confession. Shrove Tuesday is the day when people went to confession to prepare themselves for Lent, which began on on Ash Wednesday.

Why did we eat pancakes?

It was the last chance for a spot of indulgence before 40 days of fasting, and also an opportunity to use up food that couldn't be eaten during Lent.

Ash Wednesday

Last Wednesday, 14th of February, we celebrated Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is a 40-day season marked by repentance, fasting, reflection, and ultimately celebration. The 40-day period represents Christ’s time of temptation in the wilderness, where he fasted and where Satan tempted him. A big thank you to Sister Kathryn for leading and making our Liturgy so special.

Leadership Mass

Last week our Year 6 leaders for 2024 were inducted during our Leadership Mass. Students received their leadership badges and recited the prayer of dedication in front of the congregation. It was lovely to see so many families be present. It was very special for the 2024 leaders to present our their Kindergarten buddies with a St Joseph's School candle. Thank you to Fr Anthony, Mr O'Toole, Mrs Holland, Mrs Vile and the Stage 3 teachers for making this mass a special occasion for all involved.
