World Dance Incursion

An inquiry into How We Express Ourselves is now in full swing in Year Two! With a breadth of knowledge tucked away in their pockets about our wider universe, students are now turning their attention to the wonderful and diverse cultures of the world we live in.

To kick off our unit, students got their groove on with our exciting World Dance Incursion!

Students engaged in discussions about the seven continents, explored countries around the world, and learned about some of the celebrations, festivals, clothing, and traditions belonging to different cultures. They asked thoughtful questions, made connections to their own experiences, and shared stories of their own cultures along the way.

We were then whisked away on a dancing adventure across the globe, learning dances from cultures spanning Cameroon to India, across to Brazil, and all the way up to Spain, while having a whole lot of fun along the way! It was amazing to see everyone get involved, giving each dance a go and bringing plenty of enthusiasm to the dance floor.

Students finished this incursion with big smiles and nothing but positive feedback for the experience, and are ready to follow their own curiosities as we uncover the many wonderful ways people around the world express themselves through culture, celebration, art, music, dance, and more!
