Financial assistance from Department of Education: Camps, sports and excursions
The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school excursions, camps and sporting activities. Girton Music Faculty Perform with Bendigo Symphony Orchestra
Seven members of Girton’s Music Faculty will take to the stage with the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra for its upcoming Fate concert on Sunday 13 September 2:30pm at Ulumbarra Theatre.
The Girton musicians performing with the orchestra are Head of Arts Cally Bartlett and Head of Senior Music Min Hunter on viola, Music Teacher Rachel Levett on violin, Instrumental Tutor Anne Begg on cello, Instrumental Tutor Meg Martin on clarinet, Arts Assistant and Girton Alumni Chelsea White on trumpet, and Head of Student Engagement and Music Teacher Dave Martin on tuba. Their involvement provides a wonderful connection between the musical life of Girton and the broader musical community of Bendigo.
Conducted by Luke Severn, the Fate program brings together three powerful works spanning the orchestral repertoire. The concert opens with Saint-Saëns’ Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah, a vibrant and energetic work filled with vivid instrumental colours and rhythmic drive. The orchestra will then be joined by acclaimed pianist Elyane Laussade for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, a dramatic and intensely expressive concerto that moves between brooding tension, moments of calm and energetic virtuosity.
The program concludes with Tchaikovsky’s monumental Symphony No. 4. Opening with its imposing brass statement of the ‘fate’ motif, the symphony takes listeners through contrasting worlds of despair, tenderness, joy and triumph, culminating in an exhilarating finale. With seven members of the Girton Music Faculty performing, it is a wonderful opportunity for students, families and members of the Girton community to hear their teachers performing alongside some of Bendigo’s finest musicians.
