Junior Report

Miss Deane - Junior Classroom Teacher

Literacy:

This fortnight, the Prep group finished learning the qu and x sounds and began exploring the th sound. They also continued building their knowledge of tricky words, including they, what and this.

The Year 1/2 students completed their oi and oy spelling test. They continued developing their understanding of when to use oi and oy in words, while also considering syllables and word structure to help them make the correct spelling choices.

Across the Junior Room, students explored the structure of persuasive texts and learned how to use persuasive language to convince an audience. Together, we wrote a persuasive letter to Mr Lehane, arguing for a trampoline at school, and to the Senior Room, asking them to go on an excursion to the beach. Students then put their learning into practice by planning and writing their own persuasive texts.

Maths:

The Junior Room began exploring the foundations of multiplication. Students started by investigating equal groups and sharing, before moving on to repeated addition (e.g. 2 + 2 + 2 = 6). We then progressed to using arrays to represent multiplication problems visually. These hands-on activities helped students develop their understanding of how multiplication works and how it connects to concepts they already know.
