YEAR 9-10 SCHOOL NEWS

Year 9 Drama

WHC welcomed two professional actors, Meila Anich and Conor Leach, from the Melbourne Theatre Company who visited our year 9 Drama class to assist in the exploration of the contemporary play Slap.Bang.Kiss which is part of our Australian theatre unit. It was fantastic to see students engage creatively and explore the impact of space and rhythm on text. It was a really exciting and privileged opportunity to have performers of such calibre work alongside our students!

Year 9 Humanities 

Year 9 students have been learning about the Industrial Revolution and the many technological advances it brought to our world, including the smaller, less thought of innovations. Recently, they toured the Fyansford Paper Mill learning about its history and how it created employment opportunities. They saw how channels were created alongside the river to filter water through and learnt that paper was originally made from bits of old cloth. 

Students also learnt that during WW1 and WW2, it was a bomb-making site, with the bombs created here used to target ships in Australian waters. This links in with their next unit of learning on WW1. Many students noted that the guides had interesting stories to share, and that it was a part of Geelong's history they had been unaware of until now.
