LIBRARY NEWS

Book Week

In Week 7 we celebrated Book Week at Western Heights College. The theme was Symphony of Stories set by the Children’s Book Council of Australia, which also celebrated its 80th anniversary of Book Week.

For Book Week we celebrated with a range of lunchtime activities such as welcoming Vicky Grosser and Kerry Spina to come and talk to our students about the book My Backyard by Ron Milligan which they co-edited. My Backyard invites readers to reflect on the stories, people and places that shape the history of the Geelong region.

On Tuesday students got to design and create their own watercolour bookmark. Wednesday, we celebrated reading with our Read the Room activity. Students got to engage with reading as a meditative activity amongst calming music and colourful lighting, sitting amongst friends in a space created for the purpose of reading, some might say it’s a rave for readers? Thursday students in year 7 and 12 got the chance to dress up as their favourite book character with prizes galore.

Thank you to all the students and staff that participated and helped in Book Week 2026. Keep your eyes peeled for all library activities and events on Compass, Vivi and the WHC Newsletter.
