Principal's report

Tom Cain

In our classrooms

As we continue through Term Two, it's wonderful to see our students engaged and learning each day. Thank you to students and families who have made efforts to wear the correct uniform even during these colder months. We are seeing a lot of jumpers and jackets make their way to lost property now, so please remember to label all items clearly. This helps us return lost items to their rightful owners and ensures all students have the uniform items they need.

In our community

Earlier this week, I wrote to all Year 6 families about some concerning behaviours we were responding to in this cohort. Thank you to parents and carers for their ongoing support in this area. It’s essential that we work together to maintain a positive and respectful environment for everyone, free of bullying, discrimination, and disrespectful behaviour. I want to thank all families for the important role they play in supporting students to meet the high behavioural standards we set at Port Melbourne Primary School.

Prep enrolments

A quick reminder that Prep enrolments for 2025 can now be submitted. If you have a child starting Prep next year, or know someone who does, please make sure to submit as soon as possible. This week, we held our Prep Information Evening, which, building on our Open Morning last term, increased awareness of the Prep transition program for new and existing families. Both events were well attended and provided valuable insights into what families can expect. I welcome any families seeking more information about Prep and the transition to “Big School” to join me and the School Captains for a tour if they haven’t already done so. Book a Tour.

Parents Battle of the Bands - Winners!

Congratulations to the PMPS parents' band, The Portals, who won the Parents Battle of the Bands last week with a perfect score! We would also like to thank the Port Melbourne community for your phenomenal support - through ticket sales PMPS also won a Student Scholarship to the Rock Academy. A clean sweep of prizes!

ResourceSmart School Volunteers Award

We were honoured to receive the ResourceSmart School Volunteers of the Year Award this week. A heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers, students, staff, and families for their unwavering support. This achievement would not have been possible without your collective efforts. Let’s continue to work together to make Port Melbourne Primary School a beacon of sustainability and environmental stewardship.

In our staff room

Members of our Year 1 teaching team, Ms Laura and Ms Steph, will be finishing up towards the end of this term and commencing periods of leave. I thank them for their hard work and dedication to our school community. Their commitment has been greatly appreciated, and we wish them all the best during their time away from Port Melbourne Primary School.

Thank you, everyone, for your continued support in making our school a great place for our students to learn and grow. I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable long weekend.
