Parents Battle of the Bands

Congratulations to our PMPS parents’ band, The Portals, who won last Thursday’s Parents Battle of the Bands - Southside Battle!

The night started strong, with a remastered version of “Rock It For Your Kids” pumping through the speakers. This song was written and performed exclusively for the Battle by our very own band from last year, The Last Port.

Competing against local primary school parents’ bands, the calibre was high. The crowd was vibing and the mood was electric! Galilee opened strongly – their two female singers rocked out. Then Albert Park let loose with a sensational rendition of Gloria and an awesome keytar solo. Middle Park took us back to our youth with a 90s themed set – where it was amazing how long forgotten lyrics flew out of the crowds mouths.

Then it was Port Melbourne’s turn. The crowd rushed to the stage and lit up the room with glow sticks. The energy on and off the stage was 100% the whole way through. Opening with Let Me Entertain You, through to the epic crowd singalong with What’s Up (who knew it wasn’t called Hey, What’s Going On?), on to a Courtney Cox moment in Dancing the Dark, then the first ever flute appearance (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra quality) in Down Under, finishing with I’m Still Standing, where the keys were flying! It was a set to remember and the judges agreed, giving The Portals a perfect score of 100! And some even asked if they needed management! We couldn’t be more Proud to be at Port!

We’d also like to congratulate the runners up, St Kilda Park PS – they finished the night off with a mic dropping performance!

Mark your calendars for the Grand Battle - Northside v Southside at The Corner Hotel 12 September. Our band are the reigning champs - let’s see if they can bring home the title again. Either way, we’re in for a cracking good night!
