A Message from the Principal

Mrs Carolyn Parsell

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy Feast Day and 100 Years of Education at St Martha's

What a wonderful day we all had on Tuesday. We were blessed to have the Most Rev Bishop Terry Brady lead the celebration of Mass along with Fr Liem. Fr John in currently in Rome and we hope he will bring back blessings from the Pope. We know he is praying for us while he is away. Many thanks to all the parents who attended. It was great to see so many parents and grandparents along with former students, parishioners and staff past and present.

We were very blessed to be joined by the Dominican Sisters, the founders of our school. The gifts from the Sisters include the framed original letters from Fr Patrick Kerwick the Parish Priest to MM Gonsalvo Byrne, Dominican Prioress, requesting that the Sisters take charge of the Parish School and confirming the arrangement and an orange tree grown from the seeds of the orange tree at Santa Sabina, which was itself grown from seeds from the tree planted by St Dominic in Santa Sabina in Rome. These gifts are priceless treasures and we are indebted to the Sisters for these gifts and the years of service to the school.

We were honoured to have the Mayor of Strathfield, Cr John-Paul Baladi and Cr Esther Kim at our celebrations. Members of the Mission and Identity Team from Sydney catholic Schools as well as some of our Business partners joined us for our celebrations.

The day was full of joy and the blessing of our Centennary Mosaic was a very special part of the day. We are so grateful for the talents of Kate Ng, the artist who helped us bring our ideas to life. It is a beautiful addition to the school and truly reflects our history while encouraging us to travel into the future with faith and hope.

Our morning tea was a feast fit for a centennary celebration and the hall was full of happy chatter and people exchanging stories of their St Martha's experiences. Hayden from Year 5 entertained us with a clarinet performance and demonstrated the dedication of our music students. It was a joyous occassion and we were all delighted to be able to share the day with so many people.

100 Years through the decades

Wow! What a spectacular dress up effort today. The children's costumes were very special and they all looked great as we celebrate life over the last 100 Years 1925 to 2025. Huge thanks to the parents who went to so much effort to ensure the children were looking wonderful and ready to enjoy the continued celebration of our centennary. Check out our Facebook and Instagram for lots of images from our celebrations.

My sincere gratitude to all who contributed to making our celebrations so very special.

Peace and best wishes,

Carolyn Parsell
