Seed of the Week - Snake Plant

Plant of the Week is the “Snake Plant”. If you see myself (Mr Choong) I will record your name, and a cutting of the plant will be provided on the following Thursday. The cutting can then be planted into a pot or ground for it to grow.

The Snake Plant will develop a root system, over time the upright leaves will multiply. They can tolerate low light conditions and infrequent watering, making them ideal for beginner gardeners. They are also able to remove harmful chemicals in the air and release oxygen at night. These plants have been used by NASA to study methods of purifying air for long space journeys.

Seed Envelopes

It has taken four years to figure out a way to make seed envelopes made from discarded A4 paper. Usually, these printed sheets of paper become scrap paper for drawing or making rough notes.

Currently, we will build a seed bank and distribute the seeds for sale sometime soon. We also have the dilemma of having too many seeds after planting and would like to divide the seeds for sale. Most commercially purchased seeds come in the hundreds, we only use maybe about ten at the most.

When is Garden Club for Term 3

Currently Garden Club happens on Tuesday and Thursday morning, after the gates are open. We meet at the bubblers on the Churchill Avenue side of the school. If for whatever reason you’re not able to attend Garden Club but would like to help,  we are looking for volunteers to collect sticks, Lady Birds, more compost for the worm farms and discarded packaging to make useful things for Garden Club/Shop.

Coming Soon the Garden Club Shop

The Stage 3 Participants from the Pope Francis Award have volunteered their Thursday and Friday second lunchtime; to make stock for our new shop. These will be fun and interesting garden items, that will be made available for sale after school. No date has been set, but we will inform everyone when it does happen.
