CLASSROOM NEWS!

Prep/1 Classroom Learning Highlights

The Prep and Grade 1 students have continued to build confidence in classroom routines and are showing great enthusiasm across all areas of learning. It has been wonderful to see students supporting one another, developing independence, and becoming more confident learners each week.

In Mathematics, students have continued developing strong number skills through hands-on learning. Prep students have been practising counting, recognising and writing numerals to 10, matching numbers to collections, and representing numbers using ten-frames, objects and drawings. Grade 1 students have been learning to locate and order numbers on number lines and 100 charts, compare numbers, and represent numbers using tens and ones materials. Students have enjoyed building numbers with blocks, working in pairs, and explaining their mathematical thinking.

In Digital Technologies, students have been learning about safe and responsible use of devices. They explored what personal information is and discussed what information should be kept private. Students also learned the difference between hardware and software by sorting devices and apps used at school. A highlight has been programming Bee-Bots and using the Bee-Bot app, where students practised giving directions, problem-solving, and working cooperatively with partners.

In Health, students have been learning strategies to solve problems respectfully when someone is bothering or frustrating them. Through discussions and activities, students practised using respectful words such as “please stop” and learned calming strategies including deep breathing, counting, and walking away to help regulate emotions. Students created activities to show how they can respond positively in challenging situations and demonstrated growing confidence using these strategies.

During Sport and Physical Education, students focused on developing catching and ball-control skills through small group rotations and whole-class games. Activities such as Ball Chase, Catch Me If You Can, and Bean Bag Drop helped students practise watching the ball, moving their hands to catch, and improving reaction time and coordination. Students also enjoyed active games like What’s the Time Mr Wolf? and Octopus, which supported teamwork, movement skills and spatial awareness.

It has been pleasing to see students continuing to develop cooperation, resilience and confidence across all learning areas. Their willingness to try new activities, support classmates and celebrate each other’s successes has made this a positive and productive fortnight of learning.

Mrs. Clarke's Team

We have continued to work together to build a successful team in our classroom. Our current focus has been working on making our transitions from one place to another at the end of an activity quick and smooth. After each movement I am giving the kids a rating out of 10. We're definitely improving!

In Maths, we have been using the Learning Through Doing lesson's to develop our understanding of place value and bridging 10 (or 100 or 1000). The kids are proud of their developing understanding in this area, as can be seen in the photos below.

In Literacy, we continue to work on persuasive writing, understanding the reason/s for our opinions then putting this into words on the page. We will send home a copy of the finished product for you look at with your child when we are done.

Other areas of learning such as PE, when it isn't too hot outside, see us develop better ball skills through the Aussie Hoops basketball program and Humanities are taking us on an adventure around Australia. Look out parents-lots of kids have expressed interest in visiting the many beaches of Tasmania!

4/5/6 CLASSROOM NEWS

The 4/5/6 class has made a very positive start to the school year.

In Literacy, we have been building our reading stamina by focusing on reading independently for 20 minutes each day. In Writing, students have been learning about the structure and features of persuasive texts. They have written their own points of view and provided clear reasons to support their opinions.

In Mathematics, we have been developing our understanding of place value and building our speed and accuracy with number facts.
