WELLBEING:

COLD & FLU SEASON IS NEARLY UPON US:
It’s getting into cold and flu season – take some time over the coming holidays to protect yourself from illness
1. Get Vaccinated
- Flu Shot: An annual influenza vaccine is the single most effective way to prevent the flu and its complications.
- Timing: Aim to get vaccinated in early autumn before winter cases peak, though getting the shot later in the season still offers valuable protection.
2. Practice Good Hygiene
- Wash Your Hands: Scrub with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. When soap isn't available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Cough and Sneeze Safely: Sneeze or cough into your elbow, not your hands. Throw used tissues in the bin immediately.
- Disinfect Surfaces: Regularly wipe down frequently touched objects like doorknobs, remote controls, and mobile phones.
3. Boost Your Natural Defences
- Prioritize Sleep: Getting 7–8 hours of quality sleep nightly ensures your immune system functions optimally.
- Eat a Balanced Diet: Focus on whole foods, including fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C (like citrus and kiwifruit).
- Stay Active: Regular, moderate indoor exercise helps strengthen your immune system.
- Get Sunlight: Aim for a lunchtime walk during sunny winter days to maintain your Vitamin D levels.
4. Reduce Exposure
- Avoid Sharing: Do not share cups, plates, cutlery, or towels with others.
- Distance Yourself: Stay away from individuals displaying flu-like symptoms. [1, 2, 3]
