Principal's Report:

My Retirement :
Next Friday, 26th June, will be my last official day with staff and students as your Principal.
I would like to begin by sincerely thanking everyone for the time, care and commitment you have given to Kerang Technical High School. Having a community of staff, parents, students and supporters who are willing to be involved speaks volumes about a school that is moving forward and striving to do its very best for its young people.
Throughout my time in education—both as a teacher and as a principal—I have tried to stay grounded in three simple values:
- It takes a village to raise a child, and families, students, staff and communities are an essential part of shaping good citizens.
- Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
- Be fair.
Guided by these values, I can honestly say I have had what I described as an “awesome” career. It has spanned nigh on 40 years across four schools, and of those, KTHS has made up half that time. That alone tells you how important this school has been to me.
Over the years, I’ve seen enormous change to curriculum, the rise of computers and the explosion of technology, perhaps best represented by the mobile phone. One thing I have learnt is that in education, change is the one constant.
And yet, some things never change. Students are still students. Supporting them, guiding them, and working alongside them remains at the heart of what we do. That has always been one of the greatest joys of my career. I have valued the conversations, the learning, the celebrations of achievement and watching young people grow and go on to create their own life stories.
School has been a significant part of my life, and KTHS has played a very special role within that journey. I will genuinely miss being part of this community. However, I also recognise that it is the right time for me to step aside and allow someone new the opportunity to lead and continue the work.
Thank you all for your support, your partnership, and the role you have played in making this such a meaningful and rewarding chapter of my life. Please do not be a stranger and do stop to say hello or have a chat if you see me around town.
New Principal - McFarlane Visit:
Last Tuesday, we welcomed our incoming Principal, Klate McFarlane, to the school.
His visit provided an opportunity to meet with staff and students, as well as begin his induction process in preparation for the transition. Klate will officially commence at the beginning of Term 3, Monday, 13th July.
During his visit, Klate brought a wealth of experience from a range of educational settings, including both rural and metropolitan schools. He has taken the time to understand where Kerang Technical High School sits and acknowledged the positive work already taking place. In particular, he noted our student outcomes, respectful behaviour, and the strong routines and processes evident across the school.
Klate’s professional experience is complemented by further learning and preparation for principalship, positioning him well for the role ahead. Throughout the day, he was approachable, engaged and keen to connect with members of our school community. He also remained on site for the full day and participated in our leadership meeting.
Exams:
This week, our Year 10 and 11 students completed their mid-year exams. We recognise that this can be both a challenging and important experience, as it helps prepare them for what lies ahead.
Exams give students the opportunity to build confidence in applying their knowledge under timed conditions, while also developing important skills such as organisation, focus and resilience. From making sure they are prepared with the right equipment, to managing their time and maintaining concentration, these experiences all help strengthen their ability to perform under pressure.
Adding all this together make undertaking exams a valuable experience.
Early Finish:
Friday, 26th June is the last day of Term 2.
School will finish at 2:30pm and all bus drivers have been made aware of this.
Term 3 commences Monday 13th July
Have a wonderful break.
