Athletics Carnival

Marley Rutherford & Caleb Obeyesekere, Sport Captains

On the 17th of March 2026, our annual DCC Athletics carnival was held at the Doncaster Athletics track. Embodying incredible spirit, sportsmanship, teamwork and community, each house showed their athletic talents to the best of their ability and came together to create an amazing day of accomplishment and celebration. Students from other houses cheered on and supported their friends and people they didnt know, regardless of what year level or which house they were!

This year also marked the very first introduction of the house cheerleading event, taking place with one of the chosen house chants, a classic children’s worship song! Organised by our very own arts captains, Charlotte Brown and Oli Lindner, this new house competition was a huge success with participation with people of all year levels practising at lunchtimes and showcasing their routine to the judges.

With a range of participation in both track and field events, novelty races, and of course, the year 12 vs student shuttle relay, Cuthbert came out victorious for the 2026 House Athletics cup!

Here is a snippet from Cuthbert house captains Maddy Cawthorn and Tommy Williamson.

Athletics day was an amazing day for everyone, so many people got involved in events and everyone supported each other which was great to see!! The community in the school and especially in Cuthbert was on full display, which definitely made our job as captains so much easier. A huge thank you to all the teachers and students who helped out on the day and in the leadup, we couldn't have won without you all! Finally, incredible work from all of Cuthbert, you guys are the best! GO CUTHBERT!!!

The final results for the day were as follows:

1st – Cuthbert (4097 points)

2nd – Cooper (3846.5 points)

3rd – Burrows (3650.5 points)

4th – Flynn (3466 points)

Huge shoutout to all the staff who took time out of their day and put in heaps of effort, time keeping, organising and ensuring all the events ran smoothly. We couldn’t have done this without you! Furthermore, a huge thanks to all the student helpers who smoothed sand pits, coordinated sheets, and supplied the essential refreshments to all the teachers throughout the day.
